When I first heard that the 1982 classic horror film ‘Poltergeist’ was being remade I was in disbelief. I could not understand (and still don’t) why people insist on remaking classic movies. Last night I finally sat down and watched the remake. The 2015 version of ‘Poltergeist’ was written by David Lindsat-Abaire and directed by Gil Kenan(Monster House). The cast includes Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, Jared Harris, Jane Adams, Susan Heyward and Nicholas Braun. Sam Rockwell plays the role of Eric Bowen, an unemployed father of three. Rosemarie DeWitt plays Amy Bowen, a writer-housewife who’s children Kendra (Sharbino), Griffin (Catlett) and Madison (Clements). The family have moved into a new home in a large subdivision, not knowing that the home was built on top of a grave yard. There are several things that remake has in common with the original, but it also has several differences. The focus of the original film was a

If you thought the El Rey Network couldn’t get any cooler, you were wrong! The Network, founded by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, has just announced a handful of new acquisitions, including ‘Almost Human’, ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Freddy’s Nightmares’, ‘Human Target’, ‘V: The Series’, ‘Night Visions’ and, hold on to your seats, ‘Constantine’. Both ‘Constantine‘ and ‘Almost Human’ will debut on El Rey this November. The network is in the process of acquiring even more series as we speak. I know fans of ‘Constantine’ are very happy to hear this news. Fans took to social media in droves to vent their disappointment when NBC canceled the series after just one fantastic season. My hope is that El Rey will decide to pick up where NBC left off and continue the series that follows Constantine (Matt Ryan), a wizard/demon hunter. The series was based on the Hellblazer graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Warren Ellis. Constantine was created by Allen Moore and first

This echoes America’s first serial killer, H. H. Homes.”

Norman Bates Is Coming Home… Summer, 1983. No Internet. No DVD extras. No “sneak peaks.” There were a handful of magazines to get your entertainment and especially your horror news and Fangoria was mine. I got my first subscription in 1980 and kept it through most of high school. At one point my mother asked me, “Are you sure you don’t want Playboy or something?” Unlike Norman Bates, I had plenty of girlfriends. Boobs I could see any time, but horror? That was serious shit and it came in the mail addressed to me. The slasher film dominated 80s horror. Carpenter’s Halloween hit in 1978 and the original Friday the 13th was ripping off at its heels, and both birthed franchises that spanned an entire decade and beyond. Psychopaths with knives and a variety of tools populated movie houses and late night cable. Most horror scholars will acknowledge the sub genre was peaking around 1983. Friday the 13th was winding
