The first film, titled ARQ, will be directed by Tony Elliot. ARQ centers on a man trapped in his house, surrounded by masked men. …with “other things being equal, simpler explanations are generally better than more complex ones.” — Occam’s Razor Read the above statement on Occam’s Razor. This post is about the “docuseries” Making a Murderer, the Netflix “docuseries” that has a second season coming. This post is not about whether Steven Avery is guilty or innocent. It is not about whether there are injustices in our legal system. We know there are. This piece is about the cynicism behind making a piece of entertainment disguised as social crusading. I was inspired to write this after trying to make my point in a series of online tweets. There was backlash from people who made it about a social cause, and that I was ignoring the issues in our criminal justice system. My point was simple: Making a Murderer is not about the correction of our legal system or justice for a man wrongly accused. The series is about entertainment. Manipulation Set aside your

John Landgraf, Chief Executive for FX, has alresdy revealed a coule of hints about the next season to reporters during the winter press tour on Saturday that the next season of AHS will be “set in the present” but will have “echos of the past”. He continued “It’s set in two time periods, but principally in the present.” Landgraf wanted to reveal more, but stopped himself saying “Ryan [Murphy] would kill me if I tease anything”. It has also been said that the next season would be darker than the last. Murphy stated that plot for season 6 has already been mentioned in a previous season, but did not say which one. Last week I left off just before the end of season 3, the reason I did this was because there was a lot of new information to cover and I did not want to confuse fans (old and newcomers alike) halfway through the breakdown. If you missed last weeks and need to catch up, it can easily be found here: SEASONS 1 – 3 Now back to the breakdown: ___________________________________________ At the end of season 3, we learn of a magic healer named Jeremiah Smith who has the ability to heal anyone with the simple touch of his hand. Agents Scully and Mulder are sent to investigate this miracle as the man has disappeared. Meanwhile, The Smoking Man, meets with Mulder’s mother and the two argue as someone photographs of them are taken from a distance. That evening Mulder is informed his mother has had a stroke and while in the hospital, she writes the word “Palm” on a piece

A Few Words From Our Ms. Palmer “What a piece of shit! No one’s gonna see this crap!” — Actress Betsy Palmer aka Pamela Vorhees The late, esteemed critic, Roger Ebert, coined the phrase “Dead Teenager Movie” and I have stated several times that Jaws 2 arguably gets technical credit as the first one. While teenagers in peril was a long standing theme and used over and over again, it’s the sequel to Spielberg’s game changing shark movie that lined them up one after another for the monster to pick off. Jaws 2 gave the designer sheen to killing off teens. It wasn’t a grainy “B Movie” that played part of a double bill at the drive in. This was wide screen Panavision and a 50 million budget. While there was no nudity, the underlying “have sex and die” motif was there with a killer in the form a pissed off female Great White Shark. The original 1978 Halloween fine

The X-Files centers around two F.B.I. agents, Fox Mulder, the believer, and Dana Scully, the skeptic. The two spent 9 seasons and 2 major motion pictures investigating the strange and unexplained, all while hidden forces worked to impede their efforts. The X-Files was inspired by shows which featured elements of suspense and speculative fiction. The two could not be more different, Mulder, a firm believer in the paranormal searches for the truth hidden in the government all while continuing his search for his abducted sister, Samantha. Scully, spent years studying to be an MD before changing careers and joining the F.B.I. Scully looks at everything from a scientific standpoint and is originally sent to debunk Agents Mulders work. While she agrees with Mulder through much of the series that certain things can not be explained, her and Mulder’s reasonings always differ. The show offered multiple “monster-of-the-week” type episodes which were loosely based off “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “The Twilight Zone,” and

“When ambitious young real estate agent Leigh is asked to sell a house with a checkered past, she crosses paths with a disturbed girl whom she believes is the runaway daughter of the couple selling the property. When Leigh tries to intervene and help her, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls Leigh’s artist sister Vera into its own web – and has sinister plans for both of them.” _______________________________________ “At The Devil’s Door” is packed with young familiar faces from “Glee’s” Naya Rivera, to MTV’s “Awkard’s” Ashley Rickards, to “Falling Skies” star Catalina Sandino Moreno. The three girls play off of each other well creating the perfect formula for a modern day horror thriller. I did enjoy this film, although what started off as an extremely promising demonic horror flick, started to loose its sense of direction through the middle of the film. While the actors played off each other beautifully, I almost wonder if too
