The Conjuring 2 spin-off The Nun has now arrived in theaters and James Wan is not wasting any time. Not only is a third Annabelle film on its way along with The Conjuring 3, but the plan for The Conjuring 2‘s next spin-off is also already in the works, The Crooked Man. We’ve reported on The Crooked Man‘s status several times in the past, but not much news has come our way lately, however, today we have an update to share with you. In several recent interviews, James Wan has stated that his goal with each spin-off is a very different tone from the other parts of the universe. We think we have a really exciting story. You know how you release one of the most successful and iconic horror films of all time, sit around four years and snort a mountain of blow and say “Shit, we really should make a sequel to this thing…but I’ve never been a fan of screenplays or logic…aaaand action!”? Yeah, me either, but I’d bet demons to doughnuts that is pretty damn close to how Exorcist II: The Heretic came to be. We pick up the narrative with a now teen-age Regan (Linda Blair) seeing a new-age shrink on the regular, and it is at one such appointment that she says she has almost zero recollection of the events of the first film (which also mirrors the filmmakers as well). Meanwhile priest Philip Lamont (Richard Burton) is assigned to investigate the death of Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) after the events of Regan’s exorcism. Coming tomorrow (September 28th, 2018) Xbox One fans will be able to play the horror gaming experience, “Amnesia: The Dark Descent” as it arrives at the console but it’s not coming alone! “Amnesia Collection” will include all three titles from the series including the DLC story “Amnesia: Justine”, and the sequel “Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs”. The first person horror game takes players on a journey into madness as players must balance keeping the protagonist’s sanity level down while trying to explore their surroundings, having to rely on tinderboxes (matches) and lamp oil (for your trusty lamp) to light the way and help you feel safe. There’s a twist to the game’s arrival on XB1 as it will include a new difficulty mode for “Amnesia: The Dark Descent”, a hard mode. The developers wanted to take a different approach to tell the game’s story by not focusing so much on the violence and gore but having the players in a constant state of panic with the random unscripted encounters with the game’s antagonists. “The Conjuring House” will take players to a haunted house where from start to finish you’ll be in a constant state of panic as non-linear progression to the story will spell out unpredictable encounters with enemies while you look over your should constantly to avoid being discovered by the demonic entity of a woman with murderous intent! On Christmas Eve, a girl fishes down a present from the top of an impossibly high pile of gifts with the help of her sleeping grandfather’s cane. upon opening the package she meets “Pappy” a talking doll that shows her strange visions. Soon the doll is out for blood (after a bit of a tickle sesh) and ol’ grandpa has to attempt to rescue his charge from that evil effigy; all while dealing with that doll’s devious deviltry and his own left-over trauma from the war. There’s also pie and doll fuckin’ involved… What can I say; Pappy’s World is one fever dream of a sinister short! With it’s absolutely balls-to-the-wall surreal aesthetic, nightmarish visions, PTSD trauma, doll hookers…and so much more, I can guarantee you have never, ever seen anything even remotely close to this one horror hounds! After we have the hoary ol’ chestnut of “based on a true story” flashed before our eerie eyeballs we catch up with Bill and Ashely “Ash” DiAngelo (Biden Hall and Alyx Melone respectively), a married couple livin’ high on the hog in Singapore with a baby on the way…well, until it isn’t. So after that disturbing, crimson splashed miscarriage, Ash sinks into an understandable deep depression. So what is a femme in a funk to do? Why carry out the ancient East Asian practice of raising a “ghost child” as one does, much to the eternal chagrin of Ash’s maid Siti (Cynthia Lee MacQuarrie). Long story short, Ash contacts a witch doctor whom specializes in trapping unborn dead fetuses. Last December I had the putrid pleasure of layin’ my eerie eyeballs on Paranormal Farm; a frightfully fantastic found footage flick done absolutely right (you can read my thoughts on that on right here). I was pleased as a preternatural pig wallowing in supernatural shit when I found out a second installment had been made, and without further ado, here’s my revoltin review of Paranormal Farm 2: Closer to the Truth! Filmmaker/Paranormal Investigator Carl Medland (in front of and behind the camera) is back again, and returns to the scene of the crime, such at is, to talk to the participants of the first endeavor about their opinions of the first film, and to check in on how life of the farm has carried on since his last visit…all to be included as special features on the impending DVD release of the first film. Stage actress/singer Diane (Carlee Avers) is discovered in the back yard of hard luck disabled war vet Steve (Jason Alan Smith)…well, her semi-clothed body is anyway along with a bloody screwdriver. After an intense, and off-kilter, grilling by the local authorities, Steve is returned home where he becomes obsessed with Diane…so much so that he begins to hear her voice late at night and has strange fever dreams involving her (tinted a strange crimson hue, or taking place in nebulous white spaces)…while his days find him even more ostracized from his community than we was previously. Before long, Diane’s appearances become rather sinister, and find that things aren’t as they appear to be! Boasting a unique and surreal aesthetic, Diane is definitely not your run of the mill police procedural/murder mystery.
