Darlin’ features the various and sundry adventures of the eponymous title character (played by Lauryn Canny); a feral child who is dropped off at a hospital located at the edge of a snow covered forest by her equally feral mother; The Woman (played by the film’s director and writer, Pollyanna McIntosh… who we interviewed here, as a character featured in Lucky McKee’s movie of the same name… yup, this flick is a sequel to that very film, which in turn is based on the writing of Jack Ketchum). Darlin’ proves to be one hell of a handful, and is kept sedated until the staff can figure out her fate… a fate that is ultimately decided by the Catholic church (who funds the hospital) that sends her packing to ye olde Catholic orphanage. This of course complicates things when The Woman comes lookin’ for her offspring at the hospital, bearing her fav delicacy; human flesh. The Woman intends to find her

It’s September and even though the weather may say its still summer, our hearts are in fall. What’s not to love about autumn? Cooler nights, leafs changing colors, pumpkin/apple/maple flavored things, and the fact of knowing that Halloween is around the corner! Also, one thing many people like about fall is all the harvest festivals. As much as I love a traditional harvest festival, it gets kind of boring. Well, BOKKSU was awesome enough to send me a preview of their upcoming Moon Festival box! BOKKSU is a monthly subscription like a lot of those box sites, but this one sends you snacks directly from Japan! Each month the box is themed and for September, the theme is based on the traditional Japanese Moon viewing festival (also known as Tsukimi, Otsukimi, or Jugoya). This year the celebration is on September 13th to the 16th. The festival is to celebrate the arrival of the fall harvest moon and to welcome autumn.

Something evil is afoot in the town our heroine Sam (Hayley Griffith… who our own ever-awesome Kelli interviewed right here) delivers pizza in. Sure, there’s the expected weirdo shit-birds one would expect a person to encounter deliverin’ picture perfect pies at all hours, but there’s also somethin’ a bit different; namely a high class group of Satanists led by the comely witch bitch Danica (Rebecca Romijn) that is just aching to include our gal in all manner of sacrificial deviltry after a late night delivery. Soon Sam is up to her pepperoni and extra cheese in diabolical demons and monstrous magic, and it’ll take every ounce of her wits to keep her life and soul intact during this hellish night of horrors… and hilarity… You see cats n’ creeps, ol’ Satanic Panic, for all that the sinister synopsis up yonder would lead you to believe otherwise, is a rather hilarious comedy, with some well done horror overtones… especially some well

It’s Ponce de Leon 2099 as a genetic research company type-o-deal has ciphered a way of prolonging human life… if you got the dough that is, dig? Naturally said company is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg, and the way they go about their research is what the scientific community labels “fuckin’ wrong as balls”. Fortunately, the company’s CEO Bridget Pellegrini (Erika Hoveland) is kinda “hell naw” on the whole affair, and she wants that shit to cease, pee-ronto. Well, her board of directors reacts to that like one would a fart in a submarine, and tries to get her to cool ‘er jets, as does the the man with the slick-as-shit name, Dr. Magnus (Yan Birch)… hell, even her hubs Mark (Billy Wirth) puts the guilt trip upon our harried heroine. Long story short; Bridget gets locked away by the company (as part of their Executive Kidnap Community Outreach Program) while Magnus and his assistant Nikita (Vida Ghaffari)

The Zombie Army begins the only way it could; with a maniac undergoing a radical classroom-based therapy sesh before being chucked back into the loony bin… which is immediately shut down by the government. While most of the patients and staff are moved to a new facility, the soldiers occupying the facility soon discover (thanks to some weed smokin’ grunts opening a top security room) that the most dangerous inmates now roam the halls and begin their mad murder spree… while also creating an army of zombies. Based on a true story… The Zombie Army is a prime slice of S.O.V. (shot on video for you novices out there) ghoulish goodness that truly displays a sense of “let’s put on a show no matter our skill level” aesthetic that is impossible to resist. This is the horror biz created by those that love it best; those that become so inspired by fright flicks that they simply pick up the family

*Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own. Talk about a well timed release eh, cats n’ creeps? As the evenings grow colder and Autumn grows near, it is the perfect time for monsters and mystery, and what better way to celebrate that than with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Blu-ray release (for the first time no less) of the classic creepy cartoon Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!? Spread out over four diabolical discs we get all 41 episodes of the original run of this arcane animated classic. But, what exactly is Scooby Doo about (asks no one because everyone knows who the unholy hell Scooby Doo is and his whole bag)? Well, I’m glad you (didn’t) ask! Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! ’80s hair metal band Sonic Grave are trying to get back in the game in the current age , and they are on the road to a hip music festival where they hope to attract new fans at the behest of their manager Danny (Tom Arnold). Along the way, bassist Art (Sean Astin) makes a pit stop for some legendary power-packed peyote… a drug that comes with a curse attached; if anything on the sacred land is harmed while on the drug a horrible fate will befall those responsible. I forgot to mention; Art isn’t the brightest dude out there, and neither are his band mates Merrick (Jake Busey), Stevie (Leisha Hailey), and Pager (Rhys Coiro) for that matter, and soon a talking ant is pissed on and a deadly evil is released which results in our heroes getting their creature-feature cherries popped by Hymenoptera from hell! Holy hell, what do we have here cats n’ creeps? Why I do believe it’s an alien anthology of the terror kind! Following a coda, titled Pinnacles (written and directed by Stephen J. Escobar), that tells the story of Eric (Baker Chase Powell), a young dude getting his close encounter on in the middle of the desert; we are introduced to Xenophobia‘s wrap around (also written and directed by Escobar) featuring a support group for abductees relating their various diabolic dealings with sinister space-men through stories that include: First up we get Doomsday (written and directed by special effects genius Joe Castro); the tale of comely Becky (Kristen Renton) and her man Harry (Nick Principe of The FP and Chromeskull fame) who go camping in the woods and discover they are not alone in that freaky forest as one hell of a fucked up alien roams those worlds as well… seriously this thing has two faces, an emaciated body, screams

Harley (Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) is b.d. into the Banana Splits… a wacky kids program starring a quartet of costumed critters (Bingo, Fleegle, Snorky, and Drooper by name). As fate would have it, Harley’s mother Beth (Dani Kind) gets our diminutive hero tickets to the live show for his birthday, and drags along his slacker half-brother Austin (Romeo Carere), douche of a dad, Mitch (Steve Lund), and classmate (notice I didn’t say “friend”, ‘cuz Harley has next to none of those) Zoe (Maria Nash). Seems prosaic enough, save for the fact that the series has been cancelled, effective right after filming, and the automatons that portray the cartoonish cast have gone completely berserk and begin murdering people six ways to Sunday! Will Harley and his family survive the ordeal, or become part of the eternal horror
