Apple TV's "Widow’s Bay" Dominates the 78th Emmys

Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” Dominates the 78th Emmys

To say that Apple TV’s horror-comedy series “Widow’s Bay” is a hit is a massive understatement. It picked up eight statuettes and locked in frontrunner status heading into the Primetime Emmy ceremony on September 14. Created by Katie Dippold, the series anchored a dominant evening for Apple TV, which swept 18 trophies that night, more than any rival network or streaming platform. The streamer’s impressive tally was rounded out by strong performances from Pluribus with four wins. And Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Palm Royale both got three each. Ancient Curses vs. Small-Town Marketing Set 40 miles off the coast of New England, the series stars Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis, a desperately ambitious politician. He’s trying to save his dying island town by rebranding it into a premier tourist destination. Unfortunately for Tom, the locals are notoriously superstitious, cell reception is nonexistent, and everyone treats the mayor like a coward (a characterization he fully earns). Just as his

Blumhouse’s ‘Something Is Killing the Children’ Adaptation Is Actually Making Progress (Yes, Really)

It looks like Blumhouse’s long-gestating adaptation of Something Is Killing the Children is finally catching some real momentum. Dread Central reports that during a signing and Q&A on Trinity Comics’ Whatnot stream, series co-creator James Tynion IV dropped the meatiest update fans have gotten since Blumhouse snatched up the rights to the horror mega-hit. The big news? There is an officially completed screenplay for the live-action feature film. So, what’s the hold-up? Tynion revealed that the creative team is holding off on pitching until they lock down the series bible for the companion adult animated show. The game plan is to package both the live-action movie and the animated series together. While the ideal scenario is finding a buyer hungry for both, Tynion noted that if a studio only wants to sink its teeth into the live-action film, they’ll happily shop the animated series elsewhere. This strategy tracks with Blumhouse’s original promise to tackle Tynion and Werther Dell’Edera’s universe from

The Horror Comedy Series "Widow's Bay" Rules the Emmy Nominations

The Horror Comedy Series “Widow’s Bay” Rules the Emmy Nominations

The 2026 Primetime Emmy nominations have officially landed, and the dark, atmospheric world of “Widow’s Bay” has made a massive splash on the Television Academy’s radar! The acclaimed coastal mystery thriller snagged a phenomenal wave of nominations, proving that its slow-burn dread and sharp, identity-unraveling psychological tension completely captivated voters this season. “Widow’s Bay” was created by Katie Dippold. It follows a mayor trying to fix a reputation problem. Mayor Tom Loftis wants to turn his spooky town into a major tourist hotspot. Unfortunately, the local ghosts and ancient curses didn’t get the memo about the rebranding. Set 40 miles off the coast of New England, “Widow’s Bay” follows Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), a man who is desperately trying to save his dying town by turning it into a premier tourist destination. The problem? The locals are notoriously superstitious, the cell reception is nonexistent, and everyone thinks Tom is a bit of a coward. (To be fair, he is.)

The Ultimate 4th of July Horror Watch List

Are you looking to stay out of the heat, skip the fireworks, but still feel a bit patriotic? We’ve got you covered. Here’s the ultimate 4th of July watch list, and we’ll even tell you where you can watch them. The Sci-Fi Horror Heavyweight: Independence Day (1996) While traditionally celebrated as a sci-fi action blockbuster, Roland Emmerich’s masterpiece leans heavily into creature-feature horror territory. Movie Review: Creepy-Creatures Double-Feature - V.C.I. Blu-ray

Movie Review: Creepy-Creatures Double-Feature – V.C.I. Blu-ray

V.CI. have gone creature crazy and have slapped two spine-tinglers from the golden age of Drive-in madness together on one Blu-ray disc titled (appropriately enough) Creepy-Creatures Double-Feature! This monster mash gets underway with The Crawling Hand from 1963… A manned space mission goes tits-up in the worst possible way resulting in a self-destruct request from an astronaut that’s miraculously lived without oxygen for over twenty minutes. The cosmic wreckage from said blast rains down over a small California beach town where it’s discovered by young science student Paul (Rod Lauren) and his Nordic gal pal, Marta (Sirry Steffen). Among the debris is one of our bomb-shattered astronauts arms with hand still attached (which is solid for title accuracy’s sake), and soon that arcane appendage is up and about causing that patented monster mayhem died-in-the-wicked-wool Monsterkids like us love six ways to Sunday… but, that horrid hand doesn’t stop there as it possesses Paul for a lil’ Jekyll n’ Hyde riffage!

Movie Review: Get the Gloriously Gross 20th Anniversary Steelbook of James Gunn's 'Slither' Now!

Movie Review: Get the Gloriously Gross 20th Anniversary Steelbook of James Gunn’s ‘Slither’ Now!

Most people hear the name James Gunn and think Guardians of the Galaxy or his shiny new Superman movie. Not me. When I hear his name, my mind immediately goes to the gutter—specifically to Slither, his 2006 masterpiece of sci-fi slime that helped turn him into the cinematic mastermind he is today. So, the second I heard about the glorious new 20th Anniversary 4K Steelbook, I threw my wallet at the screen. Let’s say it did not disappoint. Slimey Tentacle Aliens If you’ve never experienced this beautiful disaster, the story is a classic “alien parasite meets the backwoods” nightmare. A space rock lands in a sleepy town. Then a local businessman is transformed into a walking tentacled biological hazard as the alien begins a messy mission to consume every living thing on Earth. It’s up to the town’s delightfully dry-witted Sheriff (Nathan Fillion, delivering peak Fillion) and a resilient local wife of the victim (Elizabeth Banks) to stop the infestation

Box Set Review: Danza Macabra Volume 2 - Severin 4K/Blu-ray

Box Set Review: Danza Macabra Volume 2 – Severin 4K/Blu-ray

Remember way back to like last year when Severin released their collection of Italian Gothic fright flicks in a handy box set called Danza Macabra? Well, they went and released a second volume (and because I’m woefully behind, a third set as well… review coming soon) so lets do the film by film bag, shall we? First up is Antonio Margheriti’s (Yor: The Hunter From the Future) and Sergio Corbucci’s (1966’s Django) Castle of Blood from 1964, doubtless an answer to then-popular Edgar Alan Poe adaptations coming from legendary producer Roger Corman… hell, Poe even appears as a character in this very narrative (played by The Bloodstained Butterfly’s Silvano Tranquilli)! Speaking of Poe as we are, he’s balls deep into describing the final act of his story Berenice to his chum Lord Thomas Blackwood (Umberto Raho, The Last Man on Earth) when they are joined by journalist Alan Foster (Georges Rivière) who believes that the supernatural is a load of
