4k-Ultra Review: Daughters of Darkness (1971)

After doing the eloping bag; mod young couple Stefan (John Karlen) and Valarie (Nordic beauty Danielle Ouimet) haul ass to a posh, yet deserted, seaside hotel… but more on them in a bit. Also arriving at said hotel is none other than that long-living, glamorous Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Bathory (yup that one, here portrayed by Delphine Seyrig) and her protege, Ilona (the stunningly gorgeous Andrea Rau)… and what do you know; bodies (of virgins no less) begin to be found around town drained of blood! Getting back to ol’ Stefan, this mother fucker has some deep, dark secrets of his own such as a serious sadistic streak, and the fact that the mother he seeks approval from regarding his marriage is in fact his homosexual lover! Making things a bit dicey for Liz is the fact that every old fart in town remembers her visiting decades before, and looking exactly the same as she does now… including a retired policeman

31 Days Of Anime Horror Part 31: ‘Ghost Stories’

It’s Halloween and it’s time to get into the spirit of the day and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I was featuring unique Animes that fit the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. It all came down to this special anime that gathered a cult following for the most surprising reasons; I’m talking about Ghost Stories. Blu-ray Review: Shock Treatment (1973)

Hélène Masson (Annie Girardot) is a rich-ass middle-aged woman who feels like she’s aging like a plop of dog shit on a hot August sidewalk at the ripe, jolly ol’ age of 38! This gives her a case of the frowns, so she heads off to the Devilers Clinic (nothing ominous in that name… why not just call it Satan’s Hospital), a posh New Age style clinic located on the beautiful French coast (vividly captured by cinematography courtesy of Jacques Robin) recommended to her by her pal Gérôme Savignat (Robert Hirsch). Before long, our heroine is doin’ the ol sexual fucking with the clinic’s namesake, Dr. Devilers himself (Alain Delon)… but a spate of disappearing servants, and the questionable suicide of Gérôme has her second guessing the dashing doc, even if his treatments are making her feel like fried gold! Copious amounts of nudity ensue. Directed by Alain Jessua, Shock Treatment is a slow-burn peak behind the curtain of the
