Final Girls Berlin Film Festival Preview: Killers, Thrillers, and Chillers of All Stripes Are on Tap

The fifth edition of Final Girls Berlin Film Festival takes place February 6–9, 2020 at City Kino Wedding as the fest continues to raise the bar by showcasing horror movies written, directed, and/or produced by women and nonbinary filmmakers. Festival codirector Eli Lewy calls this year’s festival edition the “most expansive and international yet, presenting a wide array of films by visionary filmmakers that represent the diversity and originality that can be found in the current horror landscape.” The exciting program features eight curated short blocks and nine feature films, a horror-inspired self-defense workshop, an exhibition, a festival party with multimedia drag performances, and specialist talks on horror martyrs, made-for-TV horror, “female monsters,” and “bad mothers” in Mexican horror cinema. “Horror is a very elastic term,” said fellow co-director Sara Neidorf, “and we’re excited to discover films that make us question and expand our conceptions of what horror can be, both in ways that are distant from and uncannily near

Horror Fuel’s Top 10 Films And Series Of 2019

2019 saw many horror films and series released, some good, some bad. We’re here to talk about the best of the best, the top 10 must-see films and series of the year! Top 10 Films 10.The Head Hunter (review) In a cold, medieval forest, a warrior (Christopher Rygh) stalks the land eternally hunting for one more monster head to add to his collection… but this decapitation would offer our hero sweet revenge! While at it’s heart an absolute exercise in minimalism, this film is everything I crave from genre cinema; unique, inventive, and packed with sweet, sweet creatures! Grim, grizzly, nihilistic, and often breathtaking; The Head Hunter is easily one of the best horror pics that has come down the putrid pike in a damn sight! -Dan XIII 9. The Lighthouse (review) Robert Eggers (The Witch) is back with his new venture into the dramatic, psychological horror with The Lighthouse starring Willem Dafoe. Set on an isolated island in New

Blu-Ray Review: The Lighthouse

From the director of The Witch, Robert Eggers, comes The Lighthouse, a dark psychological thriller that follows two lighthouse keepers living on a remote island in New England in the 1890s. Filmed in black and white, the story plays out against crashing waves and a stark landscape. Eggers choice of black and white magnifies the film’s intensity by making you feel out of place and adds a layer of bleakness to the movie. We watch as Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson work and live as they go on a slow descent into madness which feels so very real. Pattinson has not received much respect as an actor since his role as a sparkly douche of a vampire in the Twilight franchise, but he complete redeems himself is The Lighthouse proving he has real talent. His portrayal of Thomas, a man who begins to question his reality after living with Defoe’s unstable Thomas Wake, is absolutely incredible. This is coming from

Blu-ray Review: Viy (1967)

At the end of a day of extreme assing around, young monk Khoma (Leonid Kuravlyov) gets lost on his way back to the monastery and seeks shelter at the abode of an outrageously old crone. After being lodged in the barn and acting like a prize-winning douche, the crone, in truth a witch, takes our hero for a flight around the Russian countryside and gets severely beaten by the mad monk for her troubles… she also turns hot A.F. A short time later, Khoma is summoned to a Cossack’s home to stand vigil over his daughter as per her dying wish… and just guess who that daughter is? I’ll just tell ya before you lot answer something like “yellow” or “gorilla”… it’s the witch (still in her babe form). So the long and the short of it is, Khoma must watch over the witch’s coffin for three days… which would be hella easy if not for the fact that she

Movie Review (Another Hole in the Head Film Fest): The Dead Ones (2019)

Director Jeremy Kasten’s The Dead Ones tackles current hot-button issues about high school violence, including school shootings and bullying, with a supernatural spin. The film will likely take many viewers out of their comfort zones, and this challenging outing is bound to remain in the minds of those who see it for a good while. Four teenagers — introverted Alice “Mouse” Monroe (Sarah Rose Harper), former juvenile hall charge Scottie French (Brandon Thane Wilson of 2011’s Lovely Molly), psychologically troubled Katie Foster (Emily Davis of Lovely Molly and 2010’s Ghosts Don’t Exist), and Katie’s violence-prone boyfriend Louis Friend (Torey Garza) are tasked by school faculty member Ms. Persephone (Clare Kramer of Tales of Halloween [2015], the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, and Kasten’s The Thirst [2006]) to spend what would have been their summer vacation in detention, cleaning up a huge mess at their high school. As these characters are introduced and that initial set-up is begun, The Dead

Movie Review: Necropolis: Legion (2019)

In the mid-eighties Charles Band’s legendary Empire Pictures released a lil’ ditty on us horror hounds called Necropolis. The fright flick layed down the tale of a 17th century Satanic witch named Eva (LeeAnne Baker) who had a life line a mile-fuckin’-long as she is reborn as a “modern day” cycle-slut punk rock wonder who drained victims of their life force and quested for a Thing ring that would let her do her thing! Flash forward to today, and Band’s Full Moon Pictures is releasing a re-imagining of the flick courtesy of co-writer (along with Brockton McKinney)/director Chris Alexander. Let’s begin our review 0f Necropolis: Legion, shall we boils n’ ghouls? In the 17th century, evil vampire witch Eva (Ali Chappell) spends her nights using her breast mouths to suck the essence of comely sacrificial victims, as we all have at one time or another. This bit of tomfoolery cheeses of her hubby, Maynard Gandy (Joseph Lopez who is a
