Game Review: ‘Visage’

SadSquare Studio was awesome enough to let me experience the long-awaited spiritual successor to P.T. that had fans of the playable teaser excited, I’m talking about Visage. I got the game on Halloween but unfortunately, I have had issues with it at first but I simply had to just start a new game and now everything seems to be working fine, let’s see the faces of death in Visage. Visage is about a man named Dwayne Anderson who is alone in his house, his family not present, and strange things start to occur in the house leading Dwayne to encounter hostile ghosts, and visions of past families that have lived in the house and met tragic ends. Now onto the game itself. The controls of Visage are very involved (for a controller) as you have to use different combinations of controller buttons to look at, pick up, switch hands, store, drop, items you encounter in the game. You have limited

Does the Horror Genre Work When It’s Not a Movie?

When most people think of horror, they think of packed cinemas, lights out, tense music, and the occasional jump scare. Some immediately think of possessed dolls or haunted houses, while others think of fast-moving zombies or an alien invasion. The horror genre is one of the most widespread and can be further segmented into subgenres that have their own dedicated audiences. But what about when we remove the films and look to other media that fit into the genre? Does horror work when it’s not a movie? Books Many may dismiss horror-themed books due to the idea that ‘books can’t be scary.’ Most horror aficionados would tell these naysayers that horror genre books are scarier than most movies. The books last longer, have the tension drawn out, and through the narrative devices allow you to truly get into the shoes of the characters, feeling a personal connection to the tension. Master of horror, Stephen King, helped popularize the genre for

Voice Actress Laura Bailey Threatened By Fans

Last of Us Part II Spoilers Ahead Laura Bailey has quite the extensive resume of voice acting jobs she’s had dating as far back as 1999 ranging from popular Anime dubs to video games but it’s her latest role that has her in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Bailey recently did the voice and motion capture for the character Abby in The Last of Us Part II, Sony and Naughty Dog’s most popular and controversial game in the last couple of years. The main controversy was fan made by the game’s own fanbase due to the character Joel, voice and motion-captured by Voice acting superstar Troy Baker, being killed off in the first hour of the game by Bailey’s character. This has led to fans demanding a remake of The Last of Us Part II for this fact alone. From a storytelling standpoint, the plot mainly centered around the idea of the cycle of vengeance and how that

New Chapter In “Outlast” Game Series In Development

Red Barrels have announced that the long-awaited third installment in their popular first-person horror game franchise “Outlast” is in the works as we speak! The game has two main games and one DLC titled Whistleblower that follows the events of the first game. In the game’s series, players have to run and hide from psychotic individuals and behemoths while at the same time dealing with their inner demons. What sets “Outlast” apart from other horror games is the in your face terror players experience as the games take place in very dark locations and the only way you can see anything is through the viewfinder of a night vision camcorder. Though the first two games and Whistleblower are related, the third installment titled The Outlast Trials is its own story but takes place in the same universe as the other games. The story takes place in the middle of the Cold War era where players take on the role of

‘YAGA’ Brings The Fun And Old Tales!

I enjoy folklore outside North America, so I was stoked when Versus Evil and Breadcrumbs Interactive allowed me to play their action RPG that revolves entirely around Slavic Mythology, YAGA. YAGA revolves around the tale of Ivan, a blacksmith that’s unlucky, and missing a hand because of it! Ivan is tasked with quests from the Tsar that will take him into the wilderness where he encounters bandits and mythological creatures as he smashes his way through them to achieve greatness, as well as looking for a wife (to quiet his Grandmother). As all this happens, Baba Yaga watches from beyond, influencing Ivan’s journey. The controls of the game are simple and easy to learn as there are not many buttons used in the game. Ivan’s main weapon is a hammer which not only can be used to strike enemies but can be thrown like Thor’s hammer and strike foes at a distance before spinning right back to him. You can
