Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: P.J. Soles

So my Little Monsters, today we say goodbye to the month of May. BUT, being that it’s also Wednesday, it means we also say hello to another wonderful Woman of Horror. This week’s liebenswerte Frau (that’s lovely lady to you and me, Rusty), is the incredibly sweet and talented P.J. Soles. Pamela Jayne was born in Frankfurt, Germany to Nancy and Cornelis Hardon. P.J. and her parents were quite the globetrotters as she was growing up. No, not the Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal kind of Globetrotters. Her father worked for an international insurance corporation, so his career path took them all around the world. As P.J. was growing up, P.J. and her family lived in Morocco, Venezuela and Brussels, where she attended high school at the International School of Brussels. After high school, she attended Briarcliff College in Briarcliff Manor, NY, where she had aspirations of becoming the very first woman ambassador to the Soviet Union. However, after visiting

Greetings my Little Monsters! I am so pleased you’ve all returned to help me celebrate another wonderful Woman of Horror. I do have to admit that I feel remiss in my duties, having waited so long to write about this immensely talented woman. So, without further adieou, I present to you, Kristina Klebe. Kristina was born in New York City, but would grow up making the rounds with her family spending time in New York, France, Germany and Italy. The time spent growing up abroad allowed her to become fluent in the three aforementioned foreign languages. By the time she was in high school, Kristina had become a pianist and competitive equestrian. However these activities would have to take a back seat so that Kristina could commit more fully to her true love of acting. Kristina was granted early admission to Dartmouth, where she would pursue a major in Politics with a minor in Theater and Film Studies and graduate

Michael Myers Won’t Be Immortal In The New Halloween

Back in February we reported that Danny McBride and David Gordon Green will be bring Michael Myers back for a new film. The two who are writing the film, with Green directing, have dropped tidbits of information. They have said that they want to return Michael to his former glory in what is being described as a sequel to 1981’s Halloween II. In a recent interview with The Empire Film Podcast, McBride revealed that Michael will not have any supernatural or immortal properties. He will simply be a disturbed man in a mask. I think we’re just trying to strip it down and just take it back to what was so good about the original. It was just very simple and just achieved that level of horror that wasn’t corny. And it wasn’t turning Michael Myers into some supernatural being that couldn’t be killed— that stuff to me isn’t scary. I want to be scared by something that I really

ISLAMIC EXORCIST Puts A New Spin On A Classic Genre

Islamic Exorcist is exactly what it sounds like; The Exorcist, just with Islam. Given The Exorcist is one of the best horror movies ever made however, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And Islam can stand toe to toe with any other religion as far as scary ass demons go. Ever heard of Zaccoum? It’s basically a tree, except with more decapitated heads. Based on a true story (because what good exorcism movie isn’t?), Islamic Exorcist is directed by Faisal Saif, who actually received death threats while filming. From the mouth of the man himself, “I got lots of life threats from the Muslim and Shia Muslim community to not to make this film or if already made, not to showcase it anywhere.” Damn. With that much horror just behind the scenes, the full film itself must be terrifying.

Actress and well known horror star, Caroline Williams tweeted an article this morning that dovetailed with several previous Cynema posts. Director Brett Ratner called out the dangers of aggregate film score sites like Rotten Tomatoes or the similar Metacritic in an article that devolves into a promo for his upcoming films. Movie Review: THE BELKO EXPERIMENT is a Battle Royale of Staplers

Eighty Office Drones with bombs in their heads, a kitchen filled with knives, a locker full of firearms, and a mysterious voice in the ceiling commentating on a game of death; what else could a horror fan ask for? With The Belko Experiment, writer and producer James Gunn harkens back to his Troma roots, delivering an over the top ode to carnage, nihilism, and primal savage. While the film’s message might muddled under an ocean of gore, and whatever insight it had to offer blown away like a Belko Employee’s cranium, Experiment offers what’s likely to be the most bloody fun time you’ve had in awhile; that is if your soul (and your stomach) can handle it. Vincent Price – The Voice, Face, and Icon of Horror

Years and years ago during one Halloween, my dad put on Michaels Jackson’s Thriller album. The end of the title track features a devilish laugh. I didn’t know who the laugh was performed by and I was too young to realize what the song was about, but I remember my older brother bursting into tears at the demonic cackle and run out of living room to find comfort in the safety of his bedroom. It is one of my favorite memories…especially because it didn’t only happen once (mom and dad thought it was hilarious). Price has been the face and voice of horror for decades and continues that legacy long after his death. More Details Surface About The New Halloween From Writer Danny McBride

Yesterday, we reported that John Carpenter, who is on as executive producer, unveiled not only the names of the writers, the director, but the release date for the new ‘Halloween’ movie as well. Today, we have more details. Funny man Danny McBride (Pineapple Express) will co-write the new script along with David Gordon Green, who worked with McBride on ‘Pineapple Express’ and other projects. Green will also be in the director’s chair for the film. So, what can we expect? While speaking with CinemaBlend, McBride revealed more details about ‘Halloween’. You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue to story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. CD Review – Midnight Syndicate Creates an Awesome Soundtrack to Zombies!!! The Board Game

Creating a soundtrack for a board game. How exactly does anyone do that? Well, one only needs to point said query to the masterminds/madmen behind Midnight Syndicate – Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka. Their most recent release, ZOMBIES!!! Official Board Game Soundtrack, offers a definitive answer to this question. Back in my D&D (which they have also done an album base on, WOOHOO!), Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun and “roll playing game that a group of us created, but came up with no name for” days, I remember game-play situations taking shape in my mind as if they were scenes in a movie. I imagine that composing music for the elements and situations within this game must have been done in a similar fashion. Then again…maybe that’s not how Douglas and Gozska conceptualized the scoring of ZOMBIES!!!. Children Want to be Scared

Halloween, the REAL most wonderful time of the year, has passed. In the midst of all the ghosts, goblins, clowns, and princesses that braved their way up my driveway and into my horror-themed garage to get their fun-sized chocolate bar, I had a realization…kids want to be scared. Mine was the only house in the small town that was, well…a little overkill (no pun intended) decorated for the holiday. Severed heads gory enough to draw stink-eyed stares and comments from neighbors, blood spatter, eerie candles, a smoke machine and various other ornamentation to set the mood of terror covered the area where nearly a hundred children came for their treat. My decorations were not new; neither was my highly elaborate costume. The new part was the fact that after about 45 minutes of trick-or-treating almost every costumed-visitor or their accompanying parents mentioned that kids all over were making comments like: “we were told that we have to come to the
