Movie Review: Clickbait (2018)

Bailey (Amanda Colby Stewart) is a top content creator for hot social media site str33ker who is unfortunately falling to second place in the online popularity contest (thanks to her rival Laura getting cancer and therefore the public’s sympathy). In the social circles she travels in this makes her a bit of a pariah…but that is going to be the least of Bailey’s problems as a black gloved, Trump masked, psycho stalks the streets and has acquired a key to her apartment thanks to a night of drinking with a poop…well, a person dressed as a poop anyway; her roommate/camera woman/long suffering friend Emma (Brandi Aguilar). Soon this mysterious maniac begins taking videos from within our heroine’s home and posting them to Bailey’s st33ker page…and they are becoming mega popular which doesn’t make Bailey too anxious to solve the crime…and with the amazingly inept Detective Frank Dobson (Seth Chatfield) assigned to the case there isn’t much chance of that happening

A Celebration Of The Worst Horror Films: The Leprechaun Series

Photo by Anna and Michael / CC BY-SA 2.0 The Leprechaun films are loosely based on the mythology of Ireland’s ‘Little green man’ Every now and again, a stroke of creative genius leads to the creation of films that simultaneously entertaining and really, really bad. The Leprechaun franchise is one such creation. It has amassed a cult following of fans who aren’t afraid to admit just how terrible the films are, but at the same time can’t help but derive enjoyment from watching them. This is a celebration of the very worst of the horror genre! There are seven films in the Leprechaun series. The first was released in 1993, while the latest addition, the prequel ‘Origins’, came out in 2014. Each installment of the comedy-horror film featured Warwick Davis, perhaps the film’s only saving grace, apart from the last one. For those who still can’t get enough of the Leprechaun, SyFy is rebooting the series for release in 2019.

Movie Review: Arte Factum: Legends (2018)

In a post-apocalyptic version of the wild west, folks covet a storytelling device (itself a primitive tattoo needle) and relate tales of a strange orb, the arte factum (think Heavy Metal‘s Loc-Nar) and it’s passage from owner to owner…you guessed it my fine fiends, we have an arcane anthology on our horrid hands (and I’ll be giving my two cents on each segment as we go)! Our wrap around takes place in a saloon in that nightmare world mentioned above, and it acts as a hub for each yarn spun…also the Four Horseman show up because…who the fuck cares; it’s cool! First up we get a tale of a warrior tattooing himself with the artifact as a creature comes to collect a the glowing orb he possesses. This was brief, but cool…I’d like to see this tale expanded. Next up we get the story of an omniscient being who possesses that special sphere watching the lives of a couple in

Movie Review: Sunset Society (2018)

The Sunset Society are a cadre of vampires (played by sunset strip rock icons such as Tracii Guns and Dizzy Reed…and Ron Jeremy?!!) who meet in an opulent mansion (the exterior of which is inexplicably realized through animation…we’ll get back to that in a paragraph or so) to drink the blood of strippers (apparently), and shoot the shit with their overlord Ace (Lemmy) and his mate Sophia (Phoebe Dollar). As that goes on, we also get some hoo-ha about some footage of the Society that has been secretly shot and is in danger of exposing the clan to the world of mortal men. Bodies are switched, blood is drank, and ropes are jumped… Where to even begin with the uneven ride that is Sunset Society…for starters, it is painfully obvious that the film is comprised of two separate elements that have been Frankensteined together to create a cohesive fright flick. The main meat of the narrative; a secret tape (supposedly

Starship Troopers’ Casper Van Dien Talks ‘Darkness Reigns’ And More

Casper Van Dean, that’s a name everyone recognizes. When you hear it, odds are, you automatically think of the giant bug movie Starship Troopers. Well, Mr. Van Dien sat down with me to talk about that iconic film and his latest projects, including the supernatural film Darkness Reigns. Horror Fuel: “What was it like on the set of Starship Troopers?” Casper Van Dien: “It was a little bit surreal at the time. I was on this massive production team, with Edward Neumeier, writer of RoboCop, which I am a huge fan of. They had all the same team that worked on RoboCop. I am such fan that. All the actors and all the crew, the extras, there were so many people. It felt like a real family though. We all got along really well for the most part.” Horror Fuel: “Did they use mostly practical effects or was most of it CGI?” Caper Van Dien: “It was hard. There were

Blu-ray Reviews: Trancers 1 – 3 (1984 – 1992)

Man-o-man did I ever love me some Trancers flicks back in my misspent youth…but I haven’t laid eyes on any of these scintillatin’ sci-fi thrillers in many a year. To that end, I was pleased as poison punch when the first three films in the Trancers series arrived on my demonic doorstep courtesy of those sexy lil’ devils at Full Moon Entertainment! So, let’s kick back, pop open a brew or twenty and dive into the first feature… Trancers (1984): In a Blade Runner style future (replete with voice over narration), Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) is a bounty hunter hot on the trail of master criminal Whistler (Michael Stefani); a bad motherfucker who can hypnotize folks turning them into zombie like creatures called Trancers (‘natch). Said trail leads our hard boiled hero back in time to 1985 where Whistler has traveled “down the line” (a process by which an individual can possess the body of their ancestor) to kill the

Blu-ray Review: The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)

A family, comprised primarily of attractive parents Mike (Martin Henderson) and Cindy (Christina Hendricks) and their slow pitch loving bro of a son (Lewis Pullman), heads out on a road trip to deliver their bitchitude sufferin’ daughter Kinsey (Bailee Madison) to her new boarding school, where it is hoped she’ll turn her wicked ways around post haste. There is a problem with this plan however when the family makes a scheduled stop at a trailer park to spend the night with some relatives…though the park seems as deserted as the local cineplex during a showing of Solo (my reviews will be timeless…timeless I tells ya!). Well it turns out there a few folks still kicking around; namely The Man in the Mask (Damian Maffei), Pinup (Lea Enslin), and Dollface (Emma Bellomy)…a trio of mass murderin’ psychos ready to get down and dirty with the horror biz on our dysfunctional antagonists! What follows is a blood splattered night of never ending

Movie Review: Beyond the Grave (Porto dos Mortos – 2010)

In a post apocalyptic landscape a lone black clad lawman (Rafael Tombini) wanders in search of vengeance against an outre adversary; a demonically possessed serial killer (inspired in no small way by Stephen King’s great creation Randall Flagg). Along his journey our hero takes up with two teenage castaways who tag along on his dark mission, fights monsters and magic, and attempts to retain some semblance of his humanity as he stares further into the abyss of both his quest and the world he inhabits. Highly reminiscent of the D.Y.I., punk rock aesthetic of early ’90’s genre film trailblazers such as Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, Beyond the Grave presents a story that takes well established tropes and puts a slight spin on them, along with a kinetic energy that ends up being a bit like Mad Max meets Phantasm…a world of grim policemen in muscle cars fighting zombies and magic in dilapidated industrial districts and sprawling bucolic landscapes. Speaking

Blu-ray Review: The Last House on the Left (1972)

I’m gonna come right out and lay some truth on you cats; The Last House on the Left was never one of my favorite Wes Craven fright flicks…but it has been well over a decade and a half since I last laid my eerie eyeballs upon it, so now that Arrow Video is unleashing a feature packed Blu-ray of ol’ Last House, let’s see if the ever shifting sands of time have mellowed my attitude towards this (admittedly classic) film… The Last House on the Left concerns the misadventures of young Mari Collingwood (Sandra Cassell) who heads out (after a bizarre conversation with her parents about her tits) to a concert by the wholesome sounding Bloodlust with her friend Phyllis Stone (Lucy Grantham)…a concert taking place in New York City…far away from her bucolic home. Meanwhile, the ultra villainous Krug (David Hess) and his kill krew have recently escaped from prison, and soon our comely protagonists find themselves in the
