Movie Review: ‘The Dark And The Wicked’ From The Filmmaker That Brought Us ‘The Strangers’

The Dark and the Wicked is set on a rural farm and centers on an adult brother and sister come to visit their sick father only to realize that something is wrong with their mother as well. It’s slow out of the gate but picks up speed, turning from a dark family drama into a holy hell, someone call a priest supernatural thriller that’s well-paced and spooky in all the right places. The movie builds real tension and suspense with scares that hit you like a linebacker out of nowhere. You are drawn into the intense story of the sister and brother and what they are experiencing within their family and forget for a moment that it’s a horror movie. But when the horror hits though, it hits hard. The cast including Marin Ireland and Michael Abbott Jr. is fantastic. Ireland really made you feel for her character Louise. The actress’ ability to ugly cry on cue is amazing. I

Desperate for a friend, he seeks solace and refuge in his ever-present cell phone and tablet. Blu-ray Review: Shock Treatment (1973)

Hélène Masson (Annie Girardot) is a rich-ass middle-aged woman who feels like she’s aging like a plop of dog shit on a hot August sidewalk at the ripe, jolly ol’ age of 38! This gives her a case of the frowns, so she heads off to the Devilers Clinic (nothing ominous in that name… why not just call it Satan’s Hospital), a posh New Age style clinic located on the beautiful French coast (vividly captured by cinematography courtesy of Jacques Robin) recommended to her by her pal Gérôme Savignat (Robert Hirsch). Before long, our heroine is doin’ the ol sexual fucking with the clinic’s namesake, Dr. Devilers himself (Alain Delon)… but a spate of disappearing servants, and the questionable suicide of Gérôme has her second guessing the dashing doc, even if his treatments are making her feel like fried gold! When Oliver, a young boy, reads a story online about misunderstood monsters he has no idea that is about to unleash a monster, putting himself and his parents in the path of a relentless entity hellbent on dragging Oliver back to his world. Being autistic and no-verbal (he doesn’t talk) has left Oliver with no friends and with a mother who struggles to cope with the situation. The monster in this film is drawn to the boy because of his loneliness. Making the situation both sad and frightening. While yes, Come Play is a horror film, it’s also much more. It’s about one family’s struggle to cope with autism. I guess it affected me more than it will some others. You see, I have an autistic nephew who is precious. Woods, a man who escaped his abusive father and the Kentucky mountains to become a big city lawyer with a beautiful family. David (Dayo Ade) and Hannah (Kyana Teresa) trick their family into participating in flipping a dilapidated Victorian mansion located deep within the wicked woods of Washington under the guise of that hoary ol’ chestnut; Christmas fuckin’ fun. This goes over like a fart in church with their eldest child Alicia (Verity Marks), but her younger siblings find a cache of creepy ol’ toys in an old playroom; so they are happier than pigs in the proverbial shit. Series Review: “Evil” Is A Sophisticated Supernatural Series That Needs To Be Seen

Demons, angels, and miracles are just some of the things that are considered very serious in the Catholic Church and have been forever. In the series “Evil” we watch as a team made up of a priest in training, a psychologist, and a contractor delve into reports of exorcisms and more for the church. Kristen (Katja Herbers), a clinical psychologist, struggles so hard to be a good mother and wife while trying to find fulfillment in her work. Though she’s a skeptic about the supernatural world after being recruited by David she can’t deny what is happening in the world around her. David Acosta (Mike Colter), who brought her aboard his team, is the opposite, he’s a true believer. Movie Review: The Mothman Legacy (2020)

Serving as a sequel to 2017’s Mothman doc; The Mothman of Point Pleasant (which I reviewed right here), The Mothman Legacy continues filmmaker Seth Breedlove’s deep-dive into the wicked winged world of this creepy cryptid! After a quick recap of Mothman-related events that culminated in the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, West Virginia we delve back into the strange goings-on in that sleepy town and we learn that the lasting effects of the eerie encounters with that creepy creature still resonate throughout the town. Also present is evidence that the paranormal upheaval continues on, and has manifested in ways hitherto undocumented… even in regards to arguably the most famous figure in the entire affair, author John Keel, who’s 1975 novel, The Mothman Prophecies brought the events of Mothman’s reign of terror to the attention of the masses (and was turned into a film in 2002 starring Richard Gere). Along for the ride are his equally jilted normie pal TS Quint (Jeremy London), who’s girlfriend Brandi (Claire Forlani) has bailed on a planned vacation to appear as a last minute contestant on her father’s (the legendary Michael Rooker) game show which just so happens to be filming at said mall.
