Blu-ray Review: Giant From the Unknown (1958)

In a small mountain town, animals are being slaughtered left and right… and it doesn’t take long for human corpses to make the scene either. But what’s behind this violence? Is it a bear? A mountain lion? No, those are too obscure for forest based killings. Naturally the answer is a giant mother fucking conquistador zombie resurrected by lightning. Local geologist Wayne Brooks (Ed Kemmer), along with archeologist Dr. Cleveland (Morris Ankrum) and his daughter Janet (Sally Fraser); a trio that simply oozes rock (literally for Wayne) n’ roll sex magic charisma, team the fuck up to put an end to this preposterous menace in an hour and seventeen minutes. I can’t even express how much I love a picture like Giant From the Unknown… it’s pure drive-in B picture comfort food that makes no sense (yet throws in some science shit to make it sound like it does), has an outrageous creature (played by Buddy Baer under make-up courtesy

The Haunting Indie Horror The Spiritualist Now Out On Digital And VOD

A desperate woman plagued by haunting night terrors seeks out unconventional help in The Spiritualist, now out on Digital and VOD, from Midnight Releasing. Written and directed by Carl Medland the film stars Julie T. Wallace, Jane Merrow, and Ian Reddington, the film centers on Laura, a woman suffering horrific night terrors and sleep paralysis. She believes the sinister spirit haunting her is the ghost of her mother. Scared and desperate, she reaches out to the spiritualist to host a seance with her friends in the hope of finding an answer. My favourite day on set was the day of the séance, I mean who does not love a good seance in a horror movie, I knew I wanted to create a seance that stood out and felt more sincere than what has previously been portrayed in horror films. As someone who is very spiritual, I did not want to do this sequence a disservice.” – Director, Carl Medland states.

First Look: Nicolas Cage Stars In His Wildest Role Yet In ‘Prisoners Of The Ghostland’

The first batch of images is here from Sion Sono‘s action-horror movie Prisoners of the Ghostland which Nicolas Cage describes as the wildest film he’s ever starred in. In the film, “When a notorious criminal, Hero (Cage) is sent to rescue an abducted girl who has disappeared into a dark supernatural universe, they must break the evil curse that binds them and escape the mysterious revenants that rule Ghostland.” It’s out there. I wear a skintight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to different body parts, and if I don’t rescue the governor’s daughter from this state line where they’re all ghosts and bring her back they’re gonna blow me up.” Cage says. The film is the English language feature debut for Suicide Club‘s Sono. Written by Aaron Hendry and Reza Sixo Safai, the film also stars Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Bill Moseley (3 from Hell), Young Dais (The Outsider), and Tak Sakaguchi (Re: Born). Witness The Bone-Chilling Trailer For ‘Sator,’ Inspired By True Events

Witness the bone-chilling trailer for director Jordan Graham’s supernatural horror Sator, inspired by his own life experiences. “Secluded home in desolate forest home to little more than the decaying remnants of the past, a broken family is further torn apart by a mysterious death. Adam, guided by a pervasive sense of dread, hunts for answers only to learn that they are not alone; an insidious presence by the name of Sator has been observing his family, subtly influencing all of them for years in an attempt to claim them.” The uniquely spectral horror-thriller blurs the line between fact and fiction as it’s core story, of a demon making contact with an intimate family, is inspired by director Jordan Graham’s own life. Sator is quite personal to me,” says Graham. “It delves into my family’s dark history with mental illness surrounding a supernatural entity, and uses home video footage to create an interwoven piece between documentary and fiction.” For years generations

“Something’s Not Right” In ‘The Vigil” Trailer

The new teaser trailer for writer-director Keith Thomas‘ supernatural horror, The Vigil, delves into ancient Jewish lore and demonology. Starring Dave Davis, Menashe Lustig, and Lynn Cohen, the film is set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn’s Hasidic Borough Park neighborhood. Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov (Dave Davis) reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante (Menashe Lustig) to take on the responsibility of an overnight “shomer,” fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member. Shortly after arriving at the recently departed’s dilapidated house to sit the vigil, Yakov begins to realize that something is very, very wrong. When I sat down to write the very first draft of THE VIGIL, I knew I wanted to tell a personal story that felt universal. The movie would be very contained and the stakes would, at first glance, seem small – one man, one

Blu-ray Review: The Black Cat (1989)

Being an adaptation of horror maestro Edgar Allan Poe’s 1843 short story The Black Cat, this film begins the only way it could; with a baby in the womb super-imposed with images of the cosmos. A visit to a movie set, some hair metal, and a baby having apocalyptic dreams later, and we know well and truly that Luigi Cozzi (Starcrash, Contamination) is following the original story to the absolute letter in such a slavish fashion that would make literary scholars the world over to rise up and shout “Skeet, skeet skeet!” Anyway, there’s also a freaky ass witch, and Caroline Munro involved in these goings-on as well. Not a lot of cats here so far, but I’m sure they’ll chuck one in at some point. (Edit: they do) So what exactly is going on in this picture? The long and the short of it all is; some folks want to make a horror movie about the aforementioned legendary evil
