Movie Review: Anything For Jackson

How far would you go to bring back a lost loved one? That’s the subject of the supernatural horror film Anything for Jackson. Starring Sheila McCarthy, Konstantina Mantelos, and “Supernatural” actor Julian Richings, the film follows a pair of grandparents desperate to bring their grandson Jackson back from the dead, which includes kidnapping a pregnant woman and making a deal with a demon. The first thing I noticed about the film is its cinematography that was both dark and rich. Even when it featured a gritty look, it still somehow retained its beauty. As for the cast, bravo. It felt like they really put their whole hearts into it. McCarthy left me impressed. The way she emotes her character, Audrey’s, every feeling is top-notch. She really gave her character an air of authenticity. Richings appeared to be in a near-constant state of panic as his character Henry struggled to keep their plan on track. In a serene mountain town down Colorado way in the early nineteen nineties, a Halloween-set music festival is interrupted by a demonic paranormal event… namely some devious devil makin’ the scene and turning revelers into full on monster mother fuckers via his spraying crimson issue! Meanwhile, re-united high school chums Natalie (Katie Maguire), Jeff (Andreas Peterson) and Kevin (Thomas Peterson), find their lil’ catch up sesh seriously interrupted by the aforementioned supernatural shenanigans. Desperate Grandparents Will Do ‘Anything For Jackson’ This December

An official selection at the Fantasia Film Festival and winner of the “Best Actor Award” (Julian Richings) at the Blood in the Snow Film Festival, Anything for Jackson is set to premiere exclusively on Shudder next month. In the film, “after losing their only grandchild in a car accident, an elderly couple kidnaps a pregnant woman to perform a reverse exorcism in order to bring him back to life.” Rue Morgue praises the film saying, “while you may come to the film for the ghosts and demonic possessions, you’ll stay for two of the most endearingly villainous characters in modern horror.” Canadian filmmaker Justin G. Lucifer Himself Confirms ‘Constantine’ Sequel Is In The Works!

Peter Stormare starred as Lucifer in 2005’s supernatural horror Constantine, giving one of the portrayals of Lucifer ever captured on screen. It appears that he has just confirmed that a Constantine sequel is indeed in the works! Stormare has taken to Instagram, posting a picture of himself as Lucifer with the simple caption “Sequel in the works.” While Stormare is the first person “directly involved” to speak out according to Screenrant.com, J.J. Abrams hinted earlier this year that he and director Francis Lawrence (Hunger Games) would return if ever a sequel was made. So we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Blu-ray Review: Relic (2020)

Ol’ Edna (Robyn Nevin) mafes like a banana and splits, her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) arrive at her remote rural home and begin piecing together that Edna’s dementia has increased a thousandfold. Edna soon reappears, but has no idea of where she has been (or isn’t allowed to say) which bothers Kay six ways to Sunday, even though Sam is over the moon to have her nana back safe and sound. Of course this is a fright flick, and Edna soon becomes all fired up which leads Kay and Sam to believe there may be a strange presence behind her actions (and the strange sounds and dreams they experience just add fuel to that fire)! A horror writin’ dude named Jack (William Holstead) ignores all common sense and moves into ye olde secluded Scottish castle with his daughter Bee (Grace Courtney) in tow. The reason for the new digs? Why he wants to stage some insanely scopey immersive play within that arcane abode as one does. Of course that creepy castle is home to a supernatural presence that wants nothing more than to fuck up our heroes’ lives six ways to Sunday Not a bad set-up for a ghost-centric yarn, eh cats n’ creeps? Written and directed by Fionn and Toby Watts, Playhouse has a lot going for it in terms of mythology and world building, but it does have some stumbling blocks along it’s joltin’ journey. While the castle setting is tops, and the acting pretty damn solid, there are a bit too many side stories and characters that take the focus away from Jack and Bee’s terror tale… and dammit, the other characters’

The Fog Rolls In: Amazon Orders New Supernatural Series “The Rig”

Amazon Studio‘s new supernatural original series “The Rig” will take us out to sea. The six-part series has now been given the green light by Amazon with John Strickland (“Line of Duty”) helming the project. Deadline reports that “The series is set onboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When the crew are due to return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world. Ahh, the ho-ho-holidays, a time of gift givin’, merry makin’, and eating tons of fucking food. Speaking of which, that is precisely what’s on the agenda for Jack (Neal Ward) and Lucy (Samantha Loxley); a sickeningly in-love young couple who are set to have a nice meal with their neighbors Michael (Frank Jakeman), Cassie (Jennifer K. Preston), and their offspring; Eric (Lee Hunter), Lauren (Nadia Lamin) and Ben (Buddy Skelton). There is a slight hiccup in the night’s plans however as our young heroes find themselves possessed by an unknown entity just before they head out for their dinner date… and let me tell you; these shiny-eyed psychopaths really, and I mean really know how to ruin a dinner party in spectacular fashion!
