Aaron Hernandez – Murderer and NFL All Star Commits Suicide

I do a lot of articles on murderers and crimes, but usually they are of historic persons and people whose stories have been told over and over again to people who follow this sort of thing. I have the sad opportunity today to cover something very recent and ongoing. In the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, the New England Patriots drafted an NCAA National Champion All-American, John Mackey Award winning (an award given to the nation’s top college tight end) blue chip prospect named Aaron Josef Hernandez. This draft pick was highly scouted and a great pick. He didn’t get drafted earlier because of continually failing drug tests and violence problems while attending The University of Florida. With these issues in mind, Hernandez signed a very lucrative 4-year contract filled with financial incentives to “walk the straight and narrow line.” His promising player was the youngest player on any active roster to start the 2010 season, and showed

Aileen Wuornos: The True Story Of A Serial Killer

Monsters do exist. They are not the nightmares in our dreams, the ghouls under our beds, or the specters in our closets. Monsters are real people, and they are terrifying. One monster who lived on the earth is none other than Aileen Wuornos. Yes, I know that this monster prologue is based on the fact that there is a movie about her called Monster (and the movie if fantastic!), but the fact still remains that she was a vile, angry woman. As with many murderers and monsters, the argument is there for if they were born evil or created evil by their circumstances. And, if created, how justified were they? I am not going or answer that question. But I hope to at least provide the information for you to create opinions and arguments. Wuornos never met her father, as he was incarcerated at the time of her birth on February 9, 1956. He was convicted of sex crimes against

Lizzie Borden Took an Axe…Well, We’re Pretty Sure She Did

Lizzie Borden took an axe And gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one. Although inaccurate, this modern-ish nursery rhyme tells the story of a woman who was found innocent of murdering her father and step-mother, but is heavily and strongly beloved to be guilty. Her life was never the same after the trials (aside from the obvious omission of parents) and she was ostracized by everyone around her. The story honestly reminds me a bit of O.J. Simpson…a vicious, violent double murderer found innocent, but clearly guilty in the eyes of the public. Lizzie Andrew Borden was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, U.S.A. August 4, 1860. She was close to her older sister, Emma. Her mother died when Lizzy was three years old, and she resented Abby Durfee Gray whom her father married after her mother’s death. In fact, she would only refer to this her step-mother as Ms. Borden

Jesse Tafero and the Botched Execution

I have focused a lot on women in horror and murder this month and will do a few more articles about those terrifying women before the month is out, but I wanted to focus today a man executed in Florida in 1990. Why Florida? Because the story of his execution is horrific and unbelievable. Jesse Joseph Tafero (October 12, 1946), his wife Sonia, their two children, and friend Walter Rhodes were asleep in a parked car. This seemingly abandoned car was noticed by police officers Phillip Black and Donald Irwin. Black knocked on the car window and saw the gun on the floor of the car too late. Tafero fired the weapon killing Black at point blank range and then opened fire on Irwin. After the double murder, the murderous crew and their children stole the police car, sped away and were finally captured at a road block. Tafero had a long criminal record consisting of mostly armed robberies. He

John and Sarah Makin – The Murderous Baby Farmers

The world has obviously changed drastically since the 1800s, but during that time in Australia there was what is called baby farming. It was for poor parents or single parents who were unable to raise their children. They would pay another couple to take the child so that there would be the possibility of a prosperous and happy life…John and Sarah Makin robbed the babies they farmed of both a prosperous life and life in general. These two monsters were a match made in Hell. John Makin was born on February 14, 1845 and Sarah was born August 15 of the same year. The couple were wed on August 27, 1871. Sarah had been married before and brought one child into the marriage and then had another daughter with John. John worked as a drayman (a driver of a low, flatbed wagon that transported various kinds of goods) and was injured which forced him to quit and the couple was

The Boogieman Lived – The Story of Albert Fish

There are creatures who are born on this earth who are comparable to those created by the best mind in horror for literature, movies and campfire stories. However, every once in a while, a demon is born who trumps even the sickest and wildest imaginations. Albert Fish is one of those…maybe THE one of those. This creature is known as The Grey Man, The Werewolf of Wysteria, The Brooklyn Vampire, and The Boogieman. He is known for extreme sexual perversions, pedophilia, coprophilia, urophilia, and masochism. Albert Hamilton Fish was born in Washington DC on May 19, 1870. His life had a difficult and tragic beginning. Many members of his family suffered from various mental illnesses and were unfit to raise Fish. He was placed in hyper-religious orphanage and routinely beaten and whipped. He was ridiculed by the other children and the leaders of the orphanage because he would become physically aroused at during the whippings. His life in the orphanage

Anna Marie Hahn…Killer of the Elderly

Happy Women in Horror Month! This month we celebrate the women in the world of horror. I have done a number of articles on serial killers, mass murderers and other horrific people, but this moth I turn my focus to the world of female terror. Anna Marie Hahn (Filser) was born in Germany in 1906. She was the youngest of 12 children and started her scandalous life at a very early age. At 12 years old she had an affair with a married physician and birthed a son named Oskar. Her horrified family sent her to the States without her child to live with relatives there. While in America, she met and married fellow German immigrant Philip Hahn. After this marriage, she was reunited with her son. Anna, however was not the doting mother that fairy tales are made of. She had a severe gambling habit and began a life of robbery to pay her debts. On May 6, 1933

A Barrel of Terror in Bear Brook Park

I like to peruse the garage sales that pop up on long weekends during the short Canadian summers an I remember a couple of years ago I was at one particular sale that was sketchy right off the bat. I was afraid to touch anything and the large, scraggle-bearded man who hacked between drags on his cigarette kept trying to push various superfluous, dust covered items into my hands. My interest in his ramshackle garage sale was dwindling until I saw a stack of 6 cardboard boxes labeled “Mystery box” with prices anywhere from $5.00 – $10.00 on them. I am a sucker for a mystery. Hesitantly, I picked up one box, handed a crisp bill to the man and left with my box of secrets. I justified by thinking that the mystery itself was worth the cash I had spent…I was wrong. In the box was old camping gear which included plastic cutlery in a smoky plastic bag, a
