We finally have a new update on Shane Black‘s ‘The Predator’, which is the fourth film in the ‘Predator’ franchise, if you don’t count the two ‘AVP’ films.
Last we heard, Benicio del Toro had stepped away from the project due to scheduling issues. Now, ‘Narcos’ actor Boyd Holbrook has stepped in to del Toro’s place, but that is not the only casting news. Reportedly, James Franco is eyeing the lead role of “Quinn McKenna”. 50 Cent is said to have also joined the cast.
Black told JoBlo that ‘The Predator’ is more of a sequel than a reboot. “…has to stand on its own two feet, but our goal is to make sure it acknowledges that, yeah, it is 30 years later in the continuity of the story. In other words, Dutch Schaefer’s patrol, which was attacked and largely slaughtered, happened 30 years ago in the context of the story. It’s referenced, it’s part of the mythology. In that way, it’s more of a sequel than a reboot.”
Talking to Collider, Black gave details about where the film stands when it comes to filming. “Right now we’re looking at probably beginning to mid February. I’m heading up to Vancouver in a week or two to go into a serious pre-production, so we’re on the cusp.”
Shane Black, who starred in the original film, will be directing from the script penned by Fred Dekker. The original 1987 film’s producers John Davis, Lawrence Gordon and John Davis will produce the new film as well. We will have to wait for a while before we see it, Fox has set the theatrical release date for February 9th, of 2018. We will update you when we know more.
