Demi Moore, the actress who cut her teeth on roles in films like GI Jane and Ghost, took home a Golden Globe award last night. She won “Best Female Actor, Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy” for her role in the body horror The Substance.
In The Substance, Moore plays an aging star who goes to disturbing lengths to recapture her youth. Moore’s character, Elisabeth Sparkle, is a celebrity aerobics show host fired on her 50th birthday due to her age. Desperate, Elisabeth doesn’t think twice when a mysterious scientist approaches her. Out of desperation and vanity, she accepts his offer. She is given an experimental chemical to revert her to her “younger, more beautiful, more perfect” self. However, the dream Elisabeth has been sold will soon turn into a nightmare.
Moore faced stiff competition in the “Best Female Actor” category, competing against stars like Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Cynthia Erivo (for her role in Wicked), and Zendaya (for Challengers). Don’t be surprised if Moore appears on Golden Globe lists again next year for her role on the hit series “The Landman” from the creators of “Yellowstone.”
During her acceptance speech, Demi Moore took the time to send a powerful message to women about the feeling of not being enough, something every woman has experienced.
