Dust off your broomsticks and call your favorite aunts—the Owens family is officially back to prove that being a witch never goes out of style. Nearly thirty years after the 1998 cult classic first cast its spell, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are reuniting for Practical Magic 2.

Warner Bros. has finally dropped the first teaser trailer, and yes, it’s set to the infectious rhythm of Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut.” Consider the lime officially put in the coconut.

A Family Affair (With a Side of Curses)

The sequel finds sisters Sally (Bullock) and Gilly (Kidman) still grappling with that pesky centuries-old curse—the one where any man who dares to love an Owens woman ends up six feet under.

Joining the fray are the legendary Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, reprising their roles as Aunts Jet and Frances. Because let’s be honest: it isn’t an Owens house without a midnight margarita and some questionable ancestral advice.

The Source Material & Creative Team

While Griffin Dunne directed the original, the sequel is being helmed by Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier (Bird Box, The Night Manager). The script, penned by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, adapts Alice Hoffman’s follow-up novel, The Book of Magic.

New Faces in the Coven:

The cast is getting a massive infusion of new blood, including Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.

The Recasting Controversy

In a twist that has fans more heated than a boiling cauldron, Evan Rachel Wood—who played Sally’s eldest daughter in the original—will not be returning. Despite Wood publicly “offering her services” for even a single line, she revealed in 2025 that the production opted to recast the role.

“I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice,” Wood shared.

According to the studio, the film returns to a world of “moonlit mischief” where the sisters must confront a dark curse that threatens to unravel the family for good. Whether you’re here for the magic or to see Kidman and Bullock share a screen again, Practical Magic 2 is shaping up to be the cinematic event of the autumn when it hits theaters on September 11, 2026.

Remember: Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, and never trust a man who doesn’t like margaritas.
