Room Service from the Great Beyond: Adam Scott Checks Into “Hokum”

If you’ve seen  Caveat and the award-winning Oddity, you know that writer/director Damian McCarthy doesn’t just make movies. He builds cinematic panic attacks. The “if you know, you know” era of his career is officially over as he moves into the horror big leagues with Hokum, and the final trailer has arrived to ensure you never look at a “Honeymoon Suite” the same way again.

Ash, Irish Inns, and Ancient Evils

Adam Scott (Severance) stars as Ohm Bauman, a reclusive—and frankly, a bit prickly—horror novelist. Ohm retreats to a remote, windswept Irish inn with a somber to-do list: scatter his parents’ ashes and find some peace.

Instead, he finds a staff obsessed with local legends of an ancient witch haunting the hotel’s bowels. Fuelled by curiosity and perhaps a drop too much Scotch, Ohm’s skepticism begins to crumble. Following a shocking disappearance, he’s dragged into a kaleidoscopic nightmare. A place where the lines between his own dark past and the inn’s supernatural residents start to blur. He checked in, but will he check out?

Production Pedigree

McCarthy isn’t going into this haunting alone. He’s backed by a “who’s who” of horror heavyweights. The list includes Roy Lee (It, The Ring), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious), and Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil).

A Cast of Familiar Faces

A stellar lineup of character actors joins Adam Scott. Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead) stars alongside Peter Coonan (The Alienist), David Wilmot (Station Eleven), Will O’Connell (Game of Thrones), and Brendan Conroy (Bodkin).

Watch Adam Scott trade his office lanyard for an ancient curse in Hokum, which hits theaters on May 1, 2026. Get your tickets now and watch the final trailer below…if you dare.
