As we reported back in May, J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage) has  signed on to direct ‘World War Z 2′, the follow up to 2013’s zombie outbreak movie starring Brad Pitt. Bayona recently got the offer to direct ‘Jurassic World 2’, but is locked into a deal with Paramount for ‘WWZ 2’ . Dennis Kelly will now be taking over for Steve Knight as scriptwriter for ‘WWZ  2′. Kelly is behind such films as ‘Utopia’, ‘Black Sea’ and will be writing the script for the upcoming remake of ‘Matilda’.  Knight’s reason for exiting the film has not revealed.

The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but we do know that Brad Pitt will be returning to his role as Gerry Lane. The original writer, Steve Knight did make an interesting statement in an interview earlier this year. “…I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate.” There is no word if Kelly will stick to the plot Knight laid out. ‘WWZ 2’ will begin filming in early 2016 and is set to premier in theaters on June 9, 2017.

‘WWZ’ was different from most of the zombie movies of 2013. Not only was it an outbreak film, the zombies were fast moving. During Gerry’s travels he learned the key to survival, if you were ill, the virus spreading zombies would let you move right past them, unharmed. This allowed people to start fighting back.
