We reported back in September that comedian Jordan Peele was switching genres to work in horror. Peele has just announced that the lead role in his horror film ‘Get Out’ have been given to ‘Sicario’ actor Daniel Kaluuy and Allison Williams (Peter Pan Live!).
‘Get Out’ follows a young African American man as he visits his Caucasian girlfriend’s family at their cursed estate. Peele will not only be directing the film, he wrote it as well. The release date for ‘Get Out’ has not been announced at this time, but we should see it released in late 2016.
Peele has stated that the film is like something that hasn’t been done in decades, claiming that ‘Get Out’ “… takes on the task of exploring race in America – something that hasn’t really been done withing the genre since Night of the Living Dead 47 years ago.”
I’m glad that Peele will be adding diversity to the genre. There are so few African American directors in horror. Peele will be able to add more films from the perspective of the African Americans culture, which has been seriously lacking for a long time.
