Who Ya Gonna Call Out?

Critical Thinking Cynema is not a film review series. Ghostbusters 2016 got a lot of shit before it was released. This article is a companion piece to my previous “Critical Thinking” essay. Ghostbusters 2016 is not funny and as a result I will argue that it’s really not a movie. The trailer holds a record for most negative comments on YouTube. There is a reason for this, however, the venomous personal attacks against one of its stars, Leslie Jones, were unwarranted and inexcusable. All of that aside, I am going to use Cynema to explain with critical thinking, why this film was a failure and arguably not a true film. Ghostbusters 2016, Answer the Call, whatever…is another studio bait and switch. This has nothing to do with a female cast. It’s not a racial thing. A Recap Of The Walking Dead Season 7 Finale

Last night’s season finale of The walking Dead was filled with action, betrayal, and sacrifice. The war has begun. Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and the Saviors are now locked into a fight for survival. The finale began with Sasha dreaming of Maggie. After climbing into the coffin she begins listening to music before taking the poisoned pill and falling asleep inside a coffin. In a dream she is reunited with Abraham. Negan pulled up to the gates of Alexandria with Eugene. Eugene made it clear that he is now “Negan”. Negan gives the order and his men pull out a casket with Sasha inside, but didn’t know that she had taken her own life. When he opens the top Sasha lunges out, as a walker. Jadis turns her gun on Rick, telling him that she made a better deal with Negan. Moments later, she shots him and pushes him off the landing. Luckily, it only grazed his side. We see

The Cat In The Hat Somehow Makes The IT Trailer Even Creepier

The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about that….child murder that is! Taking a cue from the already vaguely horrifying 2003 film, famous internet mashup artist But Without has made a trailer combo for the ages, taking the recently released IT trailer and replacing all the horrifying Pennywise scenes with the somehow even more horrifying Mike Myer’s dressed as The Cat in the Hat. As both a huge IT fan (I read the book twice before I turned 13) and someone who actually really enjoys 2003’s Cat in the Hat (looking at it as a dark comedy designed to slowly drive Alec Baldwin mad makes it a lot funnier), this was the hardest I’ve found myself laughing in a long while. Truth be told, given the choice between being locked in a basement with a dancing clown or a 8 foot tall bipedal cat wielding a rusty hoe, I think I’d choose the clown.

Creepy Game ‘We Happy Few’ Being Adapted For Film

‘We the Happy Few’ is the latest genre games to be getting a full feature length film adaption. Compulsion Games will be teaming up with Gold Circle Entertainment and dj2 for the film version of the creepy game, Variety reports. Head developer, Guillaume Provost said: “Dmitri, Stephan, and Dan approached us enthusiastically with real solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes.” The first person perspective game is set in the fictional English city of Wellington Wells, a dystopian, retro, drug-fueled society following World War II and is on the verge of collapse in the 1960’s. Residents of the city, in attempt to forget the horrors they have witnessed, are hooked on a drug called “Joy” that induces happiness, but at the same time leaves them easily controlled and manipulated. The Rock, Wrestlemania, and Predator

As I sit on my couch watching Wrestlemania, I saw this news which is both fantastic and sad. Sad because Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will apparently not be at Wrestlemania this year, but the reasoning is fantastic! Yes, news of additions to the cast of Predator are becoming nearly daily news, but this one feels bigger than others. The Rock will be laying the smack down on The Predator! The Brahma Bull joins the previously announced Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski, Augusto Aguilera, and Keegan-Michael Key. I think you all will join me in my excitement for this movie. I have no doubt that it will live up to the hype!

The second trailer has just arrived for The Mummy, revealing how the tomb of Princess Ahmanet, played by Sofia Boutella, was discovered and her story, filled with greed and murder. Tom Cruise (Jack Reacher, Mission Impossible) stars alongside, Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Teresa Palmer Is Trapped In Berlin Syndrome

Imagine meeting someone on vacation and feeling that instant connection. Quickly, a romance blooms and it feels like a dream come true, until you wake up to realize that you are actually trapped in a nightmare. Cate Shortland’s thriller Berlin Syndrome centers on a young woman in that exact situation. Recently screened at Sundance in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition, this thriller stars Lights Out actress Teresa Palmer as a young woman caught up in a passionate holiday romance that takes “an unexpected and sinister turn when the Australian photographer wakes up one morning in a Berlin apartment” and realizes that she is trapped. Warner Bros. Hit With A $900 Million Lawsuit Over Horror Franchise

Warner Bros. has reportedly just been hit with a massive lawsuit. The $900 million suit revolves around Warner Bros’ Conjuring franchise that also includes Annabelle, Annabelle 2, and the upcoming spin-off The Nun. Back in the 1970’s, a writer by the name of Gerald Brittle published a book titled ‘The Demonologist’, the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Brittle is now claiming that the he and the Warrens struck an agreement in 1978 that had a “no competing work” clause, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ed and Lorraine Warren The lawsuit alleges that Warner Bros. created the franchise with Lorraine Warren, though Brittle’s deal meant that Warner Bros. should have sought his permission. The studio has responded that they have the right to use the stories under “fair use” because they are seen as historical facts, but Brittle says that the stories are actually works of fiction. Witness True Terror In The First Trailer For Annabelle 2: Creation

A few days ago the new title was announced for Annabelle 2, from Lights Out Director David F. Sandberg, as Annabelle: Creation. The second official teaser was released yesterday and today, we witness the beginning of Annabelle’s reign of terror in the first full trailer. The film, produced by horror heavy-hitter James Wan, takes place several years after the tragic death of a dollmaker’s little girl. He and his wife “welcome into their home a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage. Soon they become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.” Stephanie Sigman (Spectre) co-stars in this prequel alongside Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (Deliver Us from Evil), Philippa Anne Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (The Last Witch Hunter), Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace), Miranda Otto (Homeland) and new comer Tayler Bucks. A Glimpse At The Dark World Of The Occult Revealed In The New Trailer For ‘Reyes’

The German thriller Reyes has unveiled a brand new trailer that gives viewers a glimpse at the dark world of the occult, including human sacrifice. Kim Sønderholm (Follow the Money, Sinister Visions), Bill Hutchens (Human Centipede 2 & 3), Shawn C. Phillips (The Corpse Grinders, Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High aka Vol. 2), Antonio Monroi (Apocalypto, “Texas Rising”), Patrick Jahns (Bunker of the Dead, Break), Peter Ahlers (Skatecop), and Aileen Dankyi-Sampong star. In the film, a down-at-heel author is getting into the vortex of an almighty death cult and finds out soon that his destiny is connected to a mysterious woman. While on a journey back to himself, will he be able to get free and to save her? Can the secret society get dashed into pieces, or will it get even stronger?
