The last time we reported on DC Universe’s “Swamp Thing” was set to premiere in May. Now, troubling news is being reported by Star New Online. According to the outlet, production on the James Wan-produced series has been shut down early, leaving the series’ future hanging in the balance.
Star reports, “The currently in-production project is being shut down earlier than expected as its producer, Warner Bros., evaluates the future of its DC Universe streaming service, on which the series was scheduled to premiere on May 31, according to several sources within the local industry.” They went on to say, “Local crew members were notified of the unexplained development Tuesday night, and were told the project would wrap production on episode 10 then halt as writers and producers rewrite an ending. Initially, the show was scheduled to film 13 episodes through May.”
Cutting the season short? Rewrites? That doesn’t sound good for “Swamp Thing” and its stars, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott, and Maria Sten. Derek Mears plays the role of Swamp Thing.
“Swamp Thing” star Virginia Madsen reportedly reacted to the news in an Instagram post that has since been deleted, saying, “I’m beyond sad. What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot in the swamp.” Bloody-Disgusting reports.
At this time we are unsure what will happen to the series if it will premiere, be cut short, or if it will go to a new home. I truly hope that we will see it at some point.
As for the DC Universe, hopefully, a statement will be released soon.
