Spyglass Media and Paramount made the announced today that filming is expected to begin later this year in Wilmington N.C. on the reboot of Scream.

Ready or Not‘s Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the reboot from the script penned by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spiderman), Deadline reports.

Bettinelli-Oplin and Gillett also revealed during the announcement that Courtney Cox is returning as Gale Weathers.

We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courtney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga.”

Cox is not the only Scream alum to be returning to their roles. We reported back in May that David Arquette will be back as Sheriff Dewy.

The original Scream movie debuted back in 1996 and quickly became a classic in the genre. IT starred Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, the target of the Ghostface Killer. Cox and Arquette co-starred and went on to appear in three Scream sequels.
