Daniel XIII; the result of an arcane ritual involving a King Diamond album, a box of Count Chocula, and a copy of Swank magazine, is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, artist, and reviewer of fright flicks…Who hates ya baby?

Molly (Isabella Alberti) wakes up in a trunk, with no memory of how her ass got in there, and wanders into a trap laden cemetery. Sounds like a typical Tuesday to me boils n’ ghouls…

So how in the hell did Molly end up in the sinister soup anyway? Could it be because of the large debt her cheap skate boyfriend Hunter (Matthew McCoy) owes ye olde local drug dealer (Jeremy Sande)… or maybe it was jealous AF Hunter himself… he did quite peeved she was jawin’ with ol’ Noah (Michael Anthony Bagozzi).

Regardless of how she got to the charmingly named Hangman’s Hollow, Molly is drfinitely going to have to keep her shit together to avoid the local slasher; namely the Hangman (Scott Alan Warner) his own damn self… a deformed sick-ticket religious nut, who hangs his male victims and keeps the ladies as his brides!

Told in part via flashbacks, Backwoods manages to throw some fun twists and turns into what boils down to your average woods-based stalk n’ slay affair… but there are some additional bright spots here!

Over the course of the film’s breakneck seventy minute runtime, we get a memorable maniac in the Hangman (who’s scared visage brings to mind the look of The Burning’s Cropsy), and plenty of the ol’ ghoulish gore splashed all over the sinister screen; and that is a thing of wicked wonder indeed, eh my cats n’ creeps?

On the flip-flop, I could have used a bit more info on our resident psycho as not much is given to his beastly backstory, though if my instincts… and eerie eyeballs are correct, a sequel would fill in some of those ghastly gaps.

And there you have it really; if I’m already thinkin’ of a sequel then I guess I liked Backwoods well enough… and for you slasher fanatics out there I’d wager you will too!
