Epic Pictures Group announced today its acquisition of a true-crime film slate. The films will depict the real-life stories of notorious serial killers and their victims. The movies include Ed Kemper, Dorthea, The Devil’s Disciple, and The Gloden State Killer, all directed by Chad Ferrin (Night Caller, The Deep Ones).
“Prepare to explore the chilling crossroads of true crime and horror with ED KEMPER, the first in DREAD’s new Serial Killer Collection. As one of the world’s most infamous serial killers, Kemper’s story is disturbing and captivating—perfect for launching this gripping series. We’re delving into the twisted psyche of these notorious figures to deliver a bone-chilling experience that goes beyond horror and taps into the terror of real-life monsters. Get ready for an unflinching journey into the dark depths of human nature,” notes CEO of Epic Pictures, Patrick Ewald.
Production has wrapped on Ed Kemper. It showcases serial killer Edmund Kemper. He murdered his grandparents at age 15 and killed eight women in 1972 and 1973, including his own mother. The film stars Brandon Kirk (H. P. Lovecraft’s The Old Ones), Susan Priver (Dead Mail), Brinke Stevens, Lew Temple, and Cassandra Gava. The film is scripted by Chad Ferrin and Stephen Johnston (Ted Bundy).
“Over my twenty-six years directing films, ED KEMPER is my crowning achievement,” states director Chad Ferrin. “My cinematic bar has been raised, and I fully expect DOROTHEA and THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER to exceed that benchmark especially with Epic Pictures behind us.”
Dorthea stars Susan Priver (Dead Mail), Lew Temple, Brinke Stevens, Ginger Lynn, Brenda James (Slither), and Ezra Buzzington. Written by Chad Ferrin, the film’s logline reads: “As she lies dying in prison, notorious serial killer Dorothea Puente finally spills her grotesque secrets to a young journalist, unraveling the story of how a life shaped by abuse, betrayal, and manipulation drove her to drug, murder, and bury her helpless victims—turning her boarding house into a graveyard where no one screamed, and no one escaped.”
The Devil’s Disciple sees a city gripped by fear and a detective haunted by obsession. The lines between hunter and hunted begin to blur. Detective Gil Carrillo dives into the darkest recesses of humanity to end Richard Ramirez’s reign of terror.
Last but not least is The Golden State Killer (in development). It will follow sadistic ex-cop Joseph James DeAngelo, turned serial predator, as he unleashes a reign of terror across California, taunting his victims and outsmarting police for decades—until one forgotten clue shatters the illusion of safety he built around himself.
The slate of true crime movies promises chills and thrills as it delves into the twisted minds and murders portrayed by some of the most infamous serial killers that left a path of terror and shattered lives behind them. Stay tuned for more updates.
