Dan Stevens—the man who transitioned from the posh drawing rooms of Downton Abbey to being the internet’s favorite horror darling—is back. In the first trailer for The Terror: Devil in Silver, he starts out looking like the world’s greatest stepdad. Naturally, because this is The Terror, that doesn’t last. By the end of the clip, he’s being dragged into a psychiatric hospital that makes a haunted house look like a day spa.
The third installment of AMC’s acclaimed horror anthology is officially ready to ruin your mental health, making its debut on AMC+ and Shudder.
The Stay From Hell
In this six-episode descent into madness, Stevens plays Pepper, a working-class mover who finds himself “checked in” to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. According to the official synopsis, New Hyde is essentially a dumping ground for the people society would rather pretend don’t exist.
Pepper’s to-do list for the season includes dodging patients who want him dead, avoiding doctors with “grim secrets” (which is never just a HIPAA violation), and facing off against an entity that might actually be the Devil himself.
As if a literal demon wasn’t enough, Pepper soon discovers that the true “boss fight” of the season is the darkness living inside his own head. Well, that’s certainly not going to help his Yelp review of the facility.
A Pedigree of Pain
This season isn’t just a random assortment of jumpscares; a horror dream team backs it. The series is executive produced by Ridley Scott and Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets), with Kusama directing the first two episodes.
Showrunners Chris Cantwell (Halt and Catch Fire) and Victor LaValle (author of the original novel) have assembled a cast that is frankly overqualified for this much suffering: Judith Light (Transparent), Aasif Mandvi (Evil), CCH Pounder (The Shield), Stephen Root (Barry), and Chinaza Uche (Silo).
How to Watch
If you enjoy being unsettled in the comfort of your own home, mark your calendars. The Terror: Devil in Silver premieres Thursday, May 7, on AMC+ and Shudder, with new episodes dropping weekly to keep your anxiety levels peaked.
For those who still prefer traditional cable, the series will haunt AMC’s linear channel later in 2026. Just remember: checking in is easy. It’s the checking out that usually involves a priest.
