Fans of the Alien franchise can get ready for some big news. 20th Century Studios has just revealed that it is developing a mysterious new Alien feature film to expand the franchise.
Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott is the project’s primary producer. Acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski is writing the screenplay. However, this upcoming story won’t serve as a sequel to Alien: Romulus. Fans are getting two sequels: one for Romulus and one for Covenant. They will be the franchise’s tenth and eleventh films.
Continuing the Prequel Storyline
Specifically, the new Covenant installment’s storyline connects directly to Ridley Scott’s previous Covenant films from the franchise. The narrative focuses on the sinister android David, who loves playing god. For years, Scott has publicly said he wants to finish his prequel trilogy. As a result, this film might finally resolve the cliffhanger from Alien: Covenant. During that film’s climax, David replaced the synthetic Walter and smuggled facehuggers onto a colony ship.
The Perfect Writer for Android Lore
Screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski brings extensive experience with complex artificial-intelligence stories. Previously, he created the sci-fi television series “Raised by Wolves.” That show explored androids raising human children on a strange planet. As a result, Guzikowski understands complex android themes remarkably well. He also wrote the acclaimed thriller Prisoners, now on Netflix, and an upcoming animated Death Stranding project.
Ridley Scott’s Latest
Scott’s most recent film, The Dog Stars, an adaptation of Peter Heller’s novel, has just hit digital and VOD. You can get a Blu-ray copy on December 1st. The post-apocalyptic film stars Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin.
The Franchise Expands
While the new films may be a while from hitting theaters, fans can expect a terrifying, thought-provoking return to classic Alien lore. In the meantime, you can relive the franchise’s terror. The Alien franchise is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
