Back in 2007, the horror film 1408, an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, left fans with their jaws on the floor. Now, it’s getting a sequel, and the original stars, Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack, are reprising their roles. They will be joined by Natalia Dyer and Elijah Wood when cameras begin rolling in early 2027, Variety reports.

Production and Creative Team

The original stars are not the only ones returning; director Mikael Håfström is also back. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Verheiden. Producers include Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Richard Saperstein, Frank Mayor, and Spyglass Media Group. Bluestone Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment are co-financing the feature. FilmNation will represent international rights, while WME Independent handles domestic sales.

Looking Back at Room 1408

The first movie adapted Stephen King’s 1999 short story. In that film, Cusack played author Michael Enslin, who investigated room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel. Meanwhile, Jackson played hotel manager Gerald Olin. The movie earned $132 million on a modest $25 million budget. Cusack previously said 1408 was the only movie he would ever consider making a sequel to.

Star-Studded Ensemble

Dyer gained worldwide fame as Nancy Wheeler in “Stranger Things”. She is currently filming HBO’s “The Trial of Louise Woodward”. Wood has built a strong horror resume with recent projects like The Monkey and “Yellowjackets,” which will soon premiere its fourth and final season. Meanwhile, Jackson recently starred in The Beast and will soon appear in “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Lastly, Cusack recently appeared in the 2025 thriller Fog of War.

Relive the Terror

Now would be the perfect time to rewatch the original, haunting film, 1408. You can stream it on AMC, AMC+, and Prime Video, or watch it for free on Tubi without a subscription. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
