If you thought the most dangerous part of a destination wedding was the open bar and the “Electric Slide,” Independent Film Company is here to recalibrate your fears. Their upcoming thriller, CHUM, is set to prove that “Something Blue” isn’t always a good thing.
A Wedding to Die For
A wedding in Malta takes a sharp turn for the worse when a shark decides to crash the party. As if an apex predator wasn’t enough, the group runs into a sinister fisherman. And he’s got a “hidden agenda”—which in movie-speak usually means “not a great guy.”
The wedding party finds themselves caught between the deep blue sea and a relentless human predator. As the body count rises and secrets surface, the newlyweds are forced to confront the cracks in their relationship. Forget marriage counseling; nothing tests a bond like deciding who gets to be the distraction while the other swims for it.
The Cast and Creative Team
Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness, Haunting of the Queen Mary) isn’t just starring; she’s also serving as a producer on this 87-minute sprint through the waves. She’s joined by Eric Michael Cole (Birds of Prey) and Elle Haymond (Neighborhood Watch). Sarah Siadat (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists) and Jim Klock (Halloween Kills) round out the cast (aka shark bait).
Directed by Jonathan Zuck, CHUM looks to be a mean-spirited hybrid of a creature feature and a “most dangerous game” slasher.
Why It’s Worth the Rental
The film respects your time—a rare feat in the era of three-hour epics. It promises high-stakes relationship drama, “loyalties shattering” like a cheap champagne flute, and hopefully, some gnarly practical-looking gore that makes the Malta coastline look a lot less inviting.
The film hits theaters on June 5, 2026, but for those who prefer their carnage from the comfort of the couch, it’s also dropping on VOD and Digital platforms the same day.
