If you honestly believed The Conjuring: Last Rites was going to wrap up the franchise for good, you must be new to horror. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema aren’t about to let their multibillion-dollar cash cow rest in peace. Instead, they are actively conjuring up a whole new era of supernatural hauntings, calendar shuffles, and corporate line-blurring.

The Warrens Return, But Aren’t the Stars We Know

First up on the docket is a trip down memory lane. A prequel, titled The Conjuring: First Communion, is officially set to haunt theaters on September 10, 2027.

The film has just locked down its leads. Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix have been cast to play the wide-eyed, youthful versions of our favorite demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren. Presumably, the film will explore how the two fell in love while dealing with localized property devaluation via poltergeists. If that isn’t enough to fill your spooky cup, a companion streaming series set within the universe is also quietly in development over at Max.

La Llorona Plays Musical Chairs

In a massive, studio-wide calendar shake-up, Warner Bros. has aggressively reshuffled The Revenge of La Llorona. According to Deadline, the follow-up to 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona has been bumped up from its April slot to February 27, 2027.

The Revenge of La Llorona will be steered by director Santiago Menghini (No One Gets Out Alive) and stars Monica Raymund (Hightown), Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad), and Edy Ganem (9-1-1). Best of all, Raymond Cruz is officially back to reprise his role as the world-weary curandero, Rafael Olvera. The cameras have been rolling on this one since August 2025.

With its new late-February slot, the weeping woman will open directly opposite K-Pop: The Debut, a coming-of-age musical film. It’s a classic cinematic showdown: synchronized pop choreography versus eternal, grief-fueled damnation.

The Great Corporate Franchise Debate

Now for the technicality that keeps horror nerds arguing on Reddit: Is the La Llorona series actually part of The Conjuring Universe?

Well, the first film featured a direct cameo from the Annabelle doll and saw Tony Amendola reprise his role as Father Perez. So, yes, I would think so. However, with the new installment, the connection could be expanded.

Canon technicalities aside, landing both The Revenge of La Llorona and The Conjuring: First Communion in the same year signals that Warner Bros. is effectively launching a brand-new phase of cinematic jump scares. Clear your 2027 calendar accordingly.
