Official synopsis
In Crawlers, a catastrophic infestation of venomous and deadly spiders sends an apartment building into lockdown. Trapped inside by a police-mandated quarantine, building manager Serena (Matilda Lutz) and her residents battle to survive as the creatures multiply by the second. Armed with her intimate knowledge of the complex, Serena may be the only one who can keep them alive — if she can confront her deepest fear.
Review
The latest in arachnophobia fright fare is director Ángel Gómez Hernández’s Crawlers. It’s the type of spider-attack movie you likely expect, and it knows that. Hernández and crew deliver what spider attack fans want in spades, with solid performances and good CGI effects to help raise it above the subgenre’s pack.
Serena (Matilda Lutz) is the put-upon live-in building manager for an apartment building owned by obnoxious, self-entitled landlord Rossmore (William Miller). He happens to be away when a suspected virus outbreak occurs and the building is sealed off by authorities with no entrance or exit for residents, but viewers are informed early on that a poisonous spider outbreak is what’s really going on inside.
Hernández, working from a screenplay written by Jayson Rothwell, invests the film with dark humor to go along with the suspense. If you enjoyed the shark’s personal vendetta in Jaws: The Revenge, you’ll get a kick out of the leader spider’s grudge toward Serena. The pacing is steady, and the good-looking spider effects and action are plentiful. Lutz is great in the lead role, heading up a sizable cast that includes Melina Matthews in a fun role as the memorable tenant Lady Lash.
Devotees of “when arachnids attack” cinema should find plenty to enjoy with Crawlers. Break out the popcorn or potato chips for this one — just be sure to check what else might be in the bag.
Roadside Attractions and Saban Films will release Crawlers in theaters on October 16, 2026.
