We reported back in May that a reboot of Interview with the Vampire was in the works under the direction of Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) who will be working with writer-producer Jill Lillington. Boone posted a photo on his Instagram account revealing that two of Anne Rice’s novels, Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, would be combined for the film.
“We’re really focusing on The Vampire Lestat, but we are using elements from some of the other books as well.” Boone said recently in an interview with Nightmare Magazine.
The big question is who will star in the reboot. Boone hinted that Jared Leto may have the part when he tweeted a picture of the actor with the caption “Lestat – there can be only one. #JaredLeto”. However, Anne Rice has since asked her fans who they would like to see as Lestat, which leaves us a bit confused as to if Leto is still cast as Lestat. At this time they are neither confirming or denying his role.
“I love all the Lestats you’re posting on the page.” Rice wrote on Facebook. “But let us not forget that Chris Hemsworth who has Lestat’s square face, cheerful eyes and voice. And let us not forget Stephen Amell either who also has great resemblance to Lestat and has the body and face of a god…”
The 1994 film Interview with the Vampire starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and was overwhelmingly loved by fans. In 2002 Queen of the Damned, adapted from Rice’s novel, debuted but fell flat. The Queen of the Damned was played by musician Aaliyah, but did not open in theater until 6 moths after her tragic death. Stuart Townsend co-starred.
