Back in December, we reported that a new Netflix series adaption of the comic ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ was on its way. Today we can report that lead role of Sabrina has been cast.
Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) will play Sabrina Spellman in the dark, upcoming series that is already greenlit for two seasons.
Shipka’s character has been described as: “An empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, Sabrina is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.”
The series is from the team behind ‘Riverdale’, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. Aquirre-Sacasa penned the script for the pilot which Lee Toland Krieger directed.
Unlike the ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ that aired from ’96 to 2003, this series will be a dark drama. Sabrina finds herself wrestling with her duel-nature, half witch, half human while trying to find her way she will fight the evil force that threatens her and her family.
