Short Film Review: The Eyes That See in the Dark (2018)

Man-oh-man is ol’ Christina (Jessica Blaney) ever in some dire straits boils n’ ghouls! You see, it seems she’s inadvertently turned her body into a human AirBnB after a failed seance of sorts, and a dastardly demon has rented that shit out with the quickness! To try and remedy this, her mother (Maria C. Blaney) has called in a duo of holy men (Andrew Hunsicker and Gabriel Brandis) to try and get that sinister squatter to vamoose, but that goes over like a fart in a submarine and before long a second demon (Jeffrey Scott) makes the scene and things go from bad, to really fucking bad! The Eyes That See in the Dark is one hell (pun always intended) of a cool lil’ fright flick! It takes the tried and true exorcism trope, gives it a slight twist or two, and delivers a satisfying bite sized horror flick that will doubtless satisfy fans of the possession sub-genre. Movie Review: Extremity (2018)

Ol’ Allison (Dana Christina) has had a rough go in life, so instead of gobblin’ down fistfuls of pills are seeing a shrink on the regular and leaving it at that, she gets the neon light idea in her noggin to spend an ungodly amount of time in a haunted attraction…but not one of those rinky-dink numbers where bored high school kids dress up as Drac and jump out to give you a start, nope; our gal goes to the type of place (Perdition by name) where the participants can be touched, tortured, and generally tormented by a cadre of masked marauders…you know, the perfect cure for case of jangled nerves. As the…well, let’s just call it an “ordeal” goes on her hoped for therapy instead unleashes even more hell from her psyche…but is all as it seems? The most striking element of Extremity is that it is one hell of a beautiful film to set your eerie eyeballs on.

Movie Review: Obsidian Curse (2016)

Party girl/junkie Blair (Karin Brauns) is sent to the big house for a year after being arrested while snorting coke off from a woman’s stomach, as one does. After being released from prison, she’s clean and sober, but she discovers her boyfriend Roberto has moved on and gotten married, and worse still…his new beau is her daughter’s new mother figure…and Blair’s time with her daughter is extremely limited and court supervised until she can find steady work…which will prove difficult with that prison record and all. Eventually Blair finds work as a tour guide in a large cavern…at least that’s what she thinks. In actuality she is lured to the cavern so an ancient witch can pawn off a curse on Blair and make her a magnet for all of the evil monsters in the world…of which there are a surprising number. Movie Review: Knuckleball (2018)

Young Henry (Luca Villacis) is dropped off by his parents for the weekend at his grandpa Jacob’s (Michael Ironside) farm. Things go just peachy as the duo toss baseballs around and do projects around the farm…I mean what could possibly go wrong? Well, gramps dies one night for one thing…so that’s a fuckin’ bummer, but then Henry seeks help from his next door neighbor, a shady as fuck dude named Dixon (Munro Chambers), who just so happens to have had some weird relationship to Jacob. Things go from bad to even more bad as Dixon pulls out all the stops to keep Henry from learning some deep, dark family secret…which he’s more than willing to kill the boy to protect. The main thing that sells Knuckleball is the strength of it’s performances. Villacis is a fine actor, especially given his age, and he manages to be likable and (thankfully) not annoying like so many kids in fright flicks…and Chambers is

Blu-ray Review: Anthropophagous (1980)/Absurd (1981)

After wandering through a small village in Greece (accompanied by one hell of a raunchy score), two German tourists arrive on a beach and get them selves all murdered up by something that comes out of the ocean. Speaking of tourists, five pals and their new acquaintance Julie (Tisa Farrow) plan on touring the islands. They hop on a boat, drink some Cokes, play some guitar, and ignore ominous Tarot card warnings…as one does. Soon most of the gang (minus the outrageously pregnant Maggie…seriously, she may be in the 5th trimester) go exploring the town…a town which is nearly deserted save for a strange woman in black and a cannibalized corpse here and there. Things aren’t going to well back at the boat either as Maggie is abducted, and the boat is set adrift stranding the group on the island where they shelter in a seemingly empty house. Blu-ray Review: Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

You know how you release one of the most successful and iconic horror films of all time, sit around four years and snort a mountain of blow and say “Shit, we really should make a sequel to this thing…but I’ve never been a fan of screenplays or logic…aaaand action!”? Yeah, me either, but I’d bet demons to doughnuts that is pretty damn close to how Exorcist II: The Heretic came to be. We pick up the narrative with a now teen-age Regan (Linda Blair) seeing a new-age shrink on the regular, and it is at one such appointment that she says she has almost zero recollection of the events of the first film (which also mirrors the filmmakers as well). Meanwhile priest Philip Lamont (Richard Burton) is assigned to investigate the death of Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) after the events of Regan’s exorcism. Soon their path’s cross and Lamont sits in on Regan’s sesh with her shrink’s happy helmet

Blu-ray Review: Await Further Instructions (2018)

Nick (Sam Gittins) has the bright idea of bringing his Middle Eastern girlfriend Annji (Neerja Naik) to his parents’ pad for Chrimbo. This goes over like a fart in a submarine for some of his kooky klan, as his father (Grant Masters) is mega-pissed that Nick hasn’t been home in years, and his grandpa Alfred (David Bradley), is a full on racist prick. Things get even more tense once Nick’s pregnant sister and her boyfriend arrive…oh, and when the mega-dysfunctional family soon discovers the house is completely sealed up by a strange obsidian corrugated metal. Isolated from the outside world, they receive messages from their television…which first displays “STAY INDOORS AND AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS”…but before long the messages become increasingly ominous…which causes even more tension in the household. Movie Review: Dead by Christmas (2018)

A group of ol’ chums gather in Louisiana (more on that in a bit my creeps) for the holidays to honor their dead friend Sam (Cody Wise), who unbeknownst to them was murdered by a candy cane to the eyes courtesy of a sinister Santa. Once there we learn of their tortured past being raised in an orphanage where a priest (who often dressed as Santa) regularly rubbed their rosary beads if ya can dig on what I’m laying down. Before long that freaky Father Christmas arrives on the scene and begins killing our protagonists one by one On the plus side, Dead by Christmas shows off some decent cinematography here and there, as well as a few instances of practical gore which are always welcome. Additionally the back story was unique enough to add interest to the film, and I also enjoyed the setting; by taking place in December in Louisiana, the environs have an Autumnal quality to them

Blu-ray Review: Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection (1931 – 1956)

Holy hell creeps; here comes the monstrous mother-load…thirty classic Universal released fright flicks all in one handy-dandy Blu-ray collection! Let’s take a very, very deep dive into the Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection as we feast our eerie eyeballs on every film and the eerie extras these devilish discs contain! (Fair warning: this is going to be one hell of an insanely long-ass review!!!) Kicking things of we have the Frankenstein Complete Legacy Collection Frankenstein (1931): Ol’ Doc Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) and his deformed assistant Fritz (Dwight Frye) are up to the totally reasonable and completely sane task of digging up graves and disassembling corpses with the intent of putting the best bits together like a human jigsaw puzzle. Well, thanks to janky science and lightning they succeed, but the end result isn’t the human perfection for which they strove; rather he is a misshapen monstrosity (played to putrid perfection by Boris Karloff) possessed of great strength,a child

Chris Norton (Ryan Carnes) is a documentary filmmaker with a wild hair up his ass to disprove alien abductions. Ya see, his father Peter (Peter Stormare) claimed to have had such an experience, and the end result has made Chris a major douche to anyone who believes in such things. So off he goes to New Mexico, camera crew in tow, to be a thorn in the side of U.F.O. enthusiasts at a convention run by Bill Johnson (Don Stark)… and these folks have little patience for his ‘tude. This goes on until he meets Emily (Jordan Hinson); a pretty normal type o’ gal…except for the fact she claims she is abducted every seven years…and the time is almost nigh for another close encounter!
