‘Morbius’ Hit With Another Major Delay

Sony has just announced that the film adaptation of Morbius has become yet another victim of the pandemic. After being hit with several delays the movie’s release date has been pushed back by nearly seven months. Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Morbius stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a scientist who, while trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Though disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life. Tyrese Gibson stars as FBI agent Simon Stroud, Jared Harris (“The Terror”) plays Morbius’ mentor, Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) plays the film’s villain Loxias Crown, and Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising) is Morbius’ love interest. Horror Duo Directing Marvel’s New ‘Moon Knight’ Series

Marvel Studios is continuing to expand its Disney Plus library with “Moon Knight,” a new series based on the comic book character created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin. Get this, the series will be directed by the well-known horror directing duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead who brought us Synchronic, The Endless, and Spring, so don’t be surprised if the show has a horror tinge to it. Mohamed Diab (“Clash”) will also direct with Jeremy Slater of “The Umbrella Academy” serving as showrunner. Marvel has not officially announced the cast, but back in October 2020, Variety reported that Oscar Isaac was in talks to play the role of Marc Spector, whose dissociative identity disorder manifests as different distinct personas. One version of the character in the comic, Spector is also the embodiment of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. “Moon Knight” is set to begin filming this March in Hungary with a Disney Plus release

James Wan’s ‘Malignant’ Scores A Hard “R” Rating

Horror heavy hitter James Wan‘s new horror film Malignant was supposed to hit theaters back in August but found itself another victim of the pandemic like many other films, but it’s on its way and has just scored an “R” rating for “Strong horror violence, gruesome images, and for language.” The plot details for Malignant are still being kept quiet. Wan does have a comic that is titled Malignant Man, but there has been no word if the two are connected. We do however know that the movie is part of the Giallo sub-genre, which usually features scenes of excessive violence and blurs the lines between art and exploitation cinema. “Locke & Key” Renewed By Netflix Ahead Of Season Two Premiere

Season two of Netflix‘s series “Locke & Key” has not even premiered yet and already the streaming giant has renewed it for season three, not that we are complaining. Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, the series follows Locke siblings and their mother who have moved into their father’s ancestral home after his death and discover the home is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. ’30 Days Of Night’ Creator Launches Monster Forge Productions

Steve Niles, the man behind the 30 Days of Night comic book series, is ramping up his presence in the genre by launching Monster Forge Productions, THR reports. Niles has teamed up with Shannon Eric Denton to create the company which will bring to life “a spectrum of horror properties, ranging from light monster fare for children to full-blown adult scares.” The site also states that “Monster Forge enters the entertainment space with a multi-platform production division bringing their monstrous library of titles and creator relationships to film, television, interactive entertainment, gaming, and merchandising.” Comics, animation, games, and toys that have grown into a cultural phenomenon over the past two decades” Niles said in a statement shared by THR. “Monster Forge will build a bridge from our own creations and those of like-minded creators’ works to film, TV, toys, games, and beyond.” Horror, sci-fi, kids’ animation, Hammer films, black-and-white creature features, and modern VFX-driven genre fun is all the stuff

Merrick: The Sensational Elephantman; if that title doesn’t grab ya by the short n’ curlies I have no idea what will! Merrick’s creative team, consisting of writer Tom Ward and illustrator Luke Parker have taken some cherry picked elements from the life of the real Joseph Merrick, a severely deformed man with tumor like growths covering his body who became something of a celebrity in the Victorian Age (and who’s life was the basis of David Lynch’s 1980 masterpiece, The Elephant Man) and swirled them around, amplified them, and mixed them with all manner of occult-laden goings-on and Masonic cult deviltry. This is a heady concoction indeed cats n’ creeps and when you take those concepts and slap some gorgeously rendered, chiaroscuro-infused arcane art on top of them, reminiscent of the works of Hellboy creator Mike Mignola in his prime no less, and you have one hell of a treat for the eerie eyeballs let me tell ya!
