After watching the new indie horror film The Kindred (review), I sat down to talk with its director Jamie Patterson and April Pearson, because I had to learn more about this terrific, dark, and disturbing film that follows a woman (Pearson) suffering from amnesia who pieces together the events that led to her father’s suicide, only to be haunted by the ghosts of children that she begins to suspect were murdered. Pearson not only gives an incredible performance as the lead actress, Helen, but she also serves as executive producer for The Kindred along with Patterson. Kelli M. McNeely: “I have to tell you, I loved The Kindred. I used words like “fantastic” more than once in my review. I rarely get this excited about a film these days.” April: “Thank you.” Jamie: “Oh, that’s really good. We’ve got something special for true crime fans. We sat down with documentary filmmaker Skye Borgman who has made many documentaries including her 2017 truly disturbing film Abducted in Plain Sight. Her new documentary, Dead Asleep is making its Hulu debut on December 16th and it’s an interesting case. Dead Asleep explores the murder of Brooke Preston by her roommate Randy Herman Jr. who claimed that he killed her while he was sleepwalking. Luckily, the jury didn’t buy it and he was convicted. In Dead Asleep, Borgman dives deep into the case. The documentary not only features information about the case but also interviews with those involved including lRandy Herman Jr. himself. The documentary presents the case and leaves it up to the viewer to decide if Herman was really sleepwalking or if he was actually awake. Chris Sun, known for horror films such as Boar, Charlie’s Farm, Daddy’s Little Girl, and Come and Get Me, has a new addition to his credit, the supernatural horror, The Possessed staring Wolf Creek actor John Jarratt. We sat down with Chris to discuss The Possessed and the true story inspiration behind it. In the film, Jacob Chandler (Jarratt) is just an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift. The Possessed is a terrifying story of accidental exorcist Jacob and his nephew Liam (Lincoln Lewis). The two have forged a career clearing demons from the bodies of their clients. Ahead of the premiere of Tubi’s two-hour special Celebrity Exorcism, I sat down with independent exorcist and author Rachel Stavis who trained the Celebrity Exorcist‘s team ahead of their investigation. According to the Journal of Scientific Study of Religion, fifty-four percent of the US believe demons exist. Rachel Stavis is one of those believers, helping people plagued by the supernatural as an exorcist. Rachel sat down with us to discuss both Tubi’s Celebrity Exorcism special and her abilities which include the power to see entities, both supernatural and paranormal. Kelli McNeely: “Commonly when we think of exorcists we think of Catholic priests.
