31 Days Of Anime Horror Part 1: ‘Ghost Hound’

It’s October and that means it’s time to get into the spirit of the season, and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I’ll be featuring a unique Anime that fits the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. So without further ado let’s kick off this month’s list with Ghost Hound. Ghost Hound (2007) follows the story of three high school boys who learn to perform out of body experiences at will in order to learn about the traumatic past of one of the boys who wishes to seek answers to the kidnapping of himself and his older sister years prior; as a result, the three are actually able

Blu-ray Review: Cruel Jaws (1995)

Ever want to watch the entire Jaws series of films in one go, but you just could never find the time? Well, fret not cats n’ creeps, because your kindly uncle Bruno (Mattei that is… he of Shocking Dark, Rats: Night of Terror, and a beastly billion more… even though he’s credited as William Snyder here for reasons most likely relating to permits and taxes) has managed to shove the entire series into a 94 minute gem titled Cruel Jaws! In the sleepy seaside town of Hampton Bay, Dag (Richard Dew… though it may actually be Hulk Hogan… Dagamania’s runnin’ wild brother!) operates an aquarium, though he’s down on his luck after an accident nearly ruined him, and left his poor waif of a daughter mighty pouty… and unable to walk I guess. To make matters worse, a greedy-ass businessman, the mafia, and the town’s mayor want his ass evicted pronto. Naturally, there’s also an annual festival (this time a

Blu-ray Review: Primitives (1980)

A trio of anthropology students; Robert, Rita, and Tommy (thanks for fuckin’ up a good thing Tom) get a wild hair up their collective asses that the primitive tribe their guide has led them to is too well known, and that the best course would be to be to travel further into the Indonesian jungle and really go native! Of course this goes over like a turd in a punchbowl, and after a rafting accident the gang makes like Journey and (unintentionally) go their separate ways… with Robert and Rita (Team R forevahhh) running afoul of the titular primitive tribe of (alleged) cannibals, and Tommy beating the bush looking high and low for his pals. Make no mistake; director Sisworo Gautama Putra and screenwriter Imam Tantowi are straight up swiping Italian cannibal fright flick maestro Ruggero Deodato like a mother fucker, but I’ll be damned if they don’t make an entertaining go if it. After inexplicably starting with a credit

Thriller ‘Sweet Pain’ Acquired For US Release

Sweetwater Pictures, Aved Productions, and Bruise Productions have just announced that following a successful theatrical run in Spain (its country of origin) the critically acclaimed “Giallo” inspired thriller Sweet Pain (aka Dolorosa Gioia), written and directed by Gonzalo Lopez has been acquired by Leomark Studios for North American distribution. The film tells the tale of Carlo (Amiran Winter), a young music composer from a wealthy family who is going through an emotional crisis. When he moves into a new house he harks back to the events that led to his current state: his first marriage, his obsession with music, the infidelities, and their murderous consequences. While the past haunts him in the form of visceral memories, Carlo strives to get his life back together and to not descend into a dark pit of madness. Our thriller Sweet Pain was actually loosely inspired by the tragic life of Renaissance music composer Carlo Gesualdo. Our story is set in the present day

Movie Review (NOLA Horror Film Fest): The Unfamiliar

U.K. chiller The Unfamiliar treads some recognizable ground but balances that out by placing its characters in an unusual setting, that being in the world of the Hawaiian occult. Military doctor Elizabeth “Izzy” Cormack (Jemima West) has just returned from a tour of duty during which she was forced into combat. She is having a difficult time reconnecting with her distant teenage stepdaughter Emma (Rebecca Hanssen), preteen son Tommy (Harry McMillan-Hunt), her professor/writer husband Ethan (Christopher Dane), and their baby Lilly (Beatrice Woolrych). To make matters worse, Izzy starts seeing and being part of weird occurrences, and when she tries to record these events as proof that they aren’t part of her PTSD, naturally there is no video evidence. Meanwhile, Ethan oddly wants to abandon his recent book research about the myths and customs — some of them dealing with the occult — of Hawaii in favor of writing children’s books. Tommy is acting strangely, including performing Hawaiian supernatural rituals.

Blu-ray Review: Massacre in Dinosaur Valley (1985)

2019: After the Fall of New York‘s Michael Sopkiw stars as Kevin Hall, a dude that loves playing with his bone… or more accurately, bones; and of the dinosaur variety at that! This mother fucker of a paleontologist hauls those shits around in a wood box he drags behind him like a “modern day” (well as of 35 years ago anyway) Django! So this Kev cat hitches a ride on a plane headed down to the Amazon (after a barfight so ridiculous it would be right at home in a Looney Tunes short… sound effects and all), along with a motley crew that includes, but is in no way limited to: an egghead professor (Leonidas Bayer) and his comely daughter (Suzane Carvalho), a couple of fashion models (the breathtaking Maria Reis and Susan Hahn), a crazed Vietnam Vet (Milton Rodríguez) and his high maintenance nag of a wife (Marta Anderson)… a real Gilligan’s Island type of sitch, but imagine the

Mr. HoleHead’s Warped Dimension Review: Flesh City (2019)

Before I kick of this revoltin’ review, let me state that if you are negatively effected by rapid strobing light and images, you may want to avoid this film. The basics of Flesh City goes as follows: Vyren (Christian Serritiello) meets Loquette (Eva Ferox) in a Berlin industrial nightclub, get a dude named Cyril (Shaun Lawton) right pissed over a video game, then decide it would be a shit hot idea to explore the club’s basement. Is that what kids are into these days? Weirdos… Speaking of weird, there is some sort of magic crystal down there that can open a gate… oh and our heroes are menaced by Prof. Yagov (Arthur Patching) and his fuckin’ robot. Vyren takes a powder from all this lunacy, but there is no way he’s gettin’ out of this nuthouse intact; to wit. he’s beginning to mutate, and if Yagov has his way, the entire city will follow suit! As you may have guessed,

Mr. HoleHead’s Warped Dimension Review: Troma’s Mutant Blast (2018)

Para-military bad-ass Maria (Maria Leite) frees science experiment TS-347 (Joaquim Guerreiro); a man with superhuman strength…and as a result an entire military complex and their zombies (though that word is taboo in this pic my creeps!) are after their asses but good! Enter: Pedro (Pedro Barão Dias), a real party animal cum ambition deficient dude that is ill prepared for the apocalypse of shambling dead he’s about to find himself balls deep in. Thankfully he has ol’ M-dawg to pull his fat out of the fuckin’ fire! Anyway, our heroes attempt to survive an onslaught of monsters as they journey to a safe haven…which is only complicated by the introduction of a nuclear bomb into the manic mix…not to mention those pesky mutations! Now this is what I’m talking about boils n’ ghouls! Mutant Blast takes the dog-tired “zombie apocalypse” formula and gives it a swift kick in the balls…and the resulting vomit and ejaculate makes for one hell of
