It’s October and that means it’s time to get into the spirit of the season, and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I’ll be featuring a unique Anime that fits the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. Let’s freak our minds more with Higurashi When They Cry.

Review: Higurashi When They Cry (Season 1) – Anime Bird

Higurashi When They Cry (2006) is a murder mystery where there’s a story arch that runs between 4 to 5 episodes before starting over with a new story that all revolves around a core plot. The story follows a teen boy who moved to a remote village and made new friends who seem to be keeping secrets from him about events happening in the village that all seem to revolve around a curse that occurs the night of a festival held in town.

Don’t let the cute animation of this 26 episode series fool you, one or two chapters everything is cute with an undertone of something wrong but before you know it, things get quite bloody!
