Covenant, which is directly connected to Scott’s 1979 classic sci-fi/horror film Alien, is scheduled to open in theaters on October 6th, 2017. We reported earlier this year that Noomi Repace will not be reprising her role as “Dr, Elizabeth Shaw”, leaving Michael Fassbender as the only returning actor. A slew of new cast members have just been announced, including Kathrine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Damian Bicher (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Carmen Ejogo (Selma) and Billy Crudup (Spotlight). A ship bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the colony ship Covenant, discovers what they think is a new uncharted paradise, but the planet is actually a dark and dangerous world – whose sole inhabitant is David (Fassbender), the “Synthetic” lone survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. Scott has revealed that in

Last year we reported that a television series from Dimension Television was in the works based on Stephen King’s The Mist. Now, we can report that Spike has officially ordered the pilot from acclaimed writer Christian Torpe. The series will use both King’s novel and the 2007 film as inspiration. The series will tell an original story about a mist, filled with otherworldly terrors, that takes over a small town. Tensions between neighbors escalates as the creatures in the mist draw closer, but they must find a way to band together to survive. The 2007 film was written and directed by Frank Darabont and stars Thomas Jane, Laurie Holden, Sam Witwer and Melissa McBride. It was both terrifying and heart breaking. I’m curious to see how it translates as series.

The Oscars are only days away (February 28th). Awards will be handed out for categories from Best Picture to Best Original Score. But there is one category that is missing, that has always been missing, a category for Stunt Actors and Stunt Coordinators. Think about it, how drab would movies be without stunt actors? Just think about Deadpool without the stunts, yawn. Stunt actors provide the action that stars(most) are unwilling to do. They leap from buildings, get lit on fire, wreck cars, and do a long list of other dangerous activities at the risk of their own health and safety. Just this year, one stunt actor lost his life and another lost a limb, both on the set Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. But somehow, stunt actors are still getting over looked. It’s time we take a stand on their behalf. There is now a petition circulating that hopes to do just that. The petition, started by Amber Gallaway,

It’s hard to believe that The X-Files revival is already over. It’s an understatement to say that fans want more. The finale ended in a real cliffhanger, with Mulder and much of the world sick or dying thanks to the Smoking Man. After the finale fans took to social media with an over whelming cry for a new season. Series creator Chris Carter is willing to do another season and Fox is interested in seeing that happen. The main issue is working around everyone’s schedule. “They’re going to ask for more. The ratings were very good. They were happy with the show.” Carter told THR. “I talked to Dana Walden today. She said they’d very much like more, but nothing’s negotiated yet.” Carter continued elaborating on his conversation with Walden. “It was casual, we like the way it worked out. So there’s an appetite for more in the future, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to get it

Once Again, What Is Cynema? Cynema is not about film reviews. I woke up to this HitFix article on the release of the anticipated horror, The Witch. An interviewer recently asked me what my thoughts were on the state of horror. What I think doesn’t matter. This morning’s article by Chris Eggertsen made me rethink my response. Is The Witch a horror movie? It reinforced my belief that The Shining isn’t a horror movie. I don’t think torture porn films are horror either. They are two ends of a spectrum, maybe an apples and oranges kinda thing. I caught shit a year ago for this article on the zombie film: https://leglesscorpse.us/made-zombie-movie-open-letter-filmmaker-harrison-smith/ I argued that zombie films are simple and for the most part, that’s the reason for their popularity. Indie filmmakers love making them because they are cheap to make and simple to write. The plot for almost every zombie film is: survival. I feel they attract a base audience
