Movie Review: Invaders From Mars (1953) – Ignite Films Blu-ray

Junior astronomer Davey MacLean (Jimmy Hunt looking between 9 and 39 depending on the angle) is awakened one night by a thunderstorm only to witness a glowing green flying saucer land behind a large hill next to his house where it promptly sinks deep within the earth. The next morning David’s father, George (Leif Erickson in a performance that goes from lovable goof to violent, moody, secretive monster with shocking ease) heads out to investigate the hill, but comes back as a complete prickus, and soon David’s mother Mary (Hillary Brooke), his neighbor, the local constables, and more fall victim to the cosmic evil buried deep in the sand. Thankfully Dave has two erstwhile allies, Dr. Pat Blake (Helena Carter) and Dr. Stuart Kelston (Arthur Franz… who insists on pronouncing “mutants” as “mewt-ants”), and these cats manage to call in the military (thanks to the magic of stock footage) which leads to a full-scale operation being launched against those menacing

BIG, EXCITING NEWS for horror film and comic book lovers alike! Director Vincenzo Natali is releasing his FIRST EVER graphic novel, TECH. Natali has been a name in sci-fi horror cinema for a while now, directing films including Splice(2009), ABCs of Death 2’s segment ‘U is for Utopia(2014),’ Netflix’s In the Tall Grass(2019), and his sleeper hit Cube(1997). New Details Emerge Surrounding Fede Alvarez’s ‘Alien’ Movie

Fede Alvarez, who is behind Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead (2013), is in the director’s chair for the new installment of the massive Alien franchise, titled Alien: Romulus. Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising), Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu star in the new film, which is being described as “an original standalone feature.” The ninth entry centers on a group of young people on a distant world who find themselves going head-to-head with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead) for Alien: Romulus. Spoiler-Free Reviews: MONOLITH and ACCUSED (Overlook Film Festival)

Monolith Australian science fiction/mystery Monolith finds a young reporter (Lily Sullivan) trying to revive her career as a journalist after not checking her sources on a controversial article. She has an opportunity to start a podcast but suffers from creative block — until, that is, she receives an email from an anonymous source that hints at a particular woman and a brick. The podcaster follows up on the mysterious message and finds herself going further and further down a rabbit hole, and revealing any more of the plot would be doing director Matt Vesely’s film a great disservice. Vesely, working from a marvelous screenplay by Lucy Campbell, masterfully builds the intensity, with Sullivan giving a first-rate performance. Sullivan is, with soem small exception, the only actor viewers see — other performers provide solid voice acting — and she carries the film wonderfully. Eiza González And Aaron Paul Join Flying Lotus’ Sci-fi Thriller ‘Ash’

Musician-turned-director Flying Lotus (Kuso) is back with the sci-fi thriller Ash. Deadline is reporting that the cast will be led by Eiza González (Baby Driver) and “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul. The two join previously announced stars Tessa Thompson (Creed) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception). Ash reportedly centers on ”a woman (Eiza González) who wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed and must then decide if she can trust the man (Aaron Paul) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, he begins to wonder how innocent she really is.” Jonni Remmler penned the screenplay for Ash which XYZ Films and GFC Films will produce.
