Game Review: ‘Broken Pieces’

Happy Halloween Ghouls and Ghoulettes! When you think of Halloween you don’t see yourself spending time at the beach right? Or at a beach out of time…and space? Well, that’s how I spent my Halloween in Broken Pieces. I want to give thanks to Elseware Experience and Freedom Games for the reviewing opportunity. Broken Pieces takes place on the seaside of France in 1993 where players take on the role of Elise, a woman searching for her missing fiance as the world seems to be outside of time and the village she’s in is devoid of life as an event took place resulting in the population going missing and supernatural threats stalk the streets. Now onto the game itself! When it comes to the controls, Broken Pieces thankfully has a tutorial system but the more I played it, it became evident that the game is more suited for mouse and keyboard which makes some interactions and movements awkward. Shorts Reviews: Starf*ckers, Letter to a Pig, and Censor of Dreams (SLASH Film Festival)

The following three shorts were part of SLASH Film Festival’s Fantastic Futures competition, which consisted of nine shorts from student filmmakers or first-time filmmakers. Starfuckers Writer/director/star Antonio Marziale delivers a gripping revenge thriller of a decidedly different kind with his short film Starfuckers (2022). The short begins with genre elements such as plastic sheets covering a floor and an atmosphere thick with tension as a young man (Cole Doman) meets a middle-aged man (Jonathan Slavin) with power dynamics obviously skewed toward the older man, who happens to be a film director. The director seems to make a habit of promising male escorts roles in his films that never come about, and a second young man (Marziale) shows up unexpectedly to make his feelings known in an unforgettable way. Marziale gives a jaw-dropping, star-making drag performance that lingers long after the short ends, and is reason enough to seek out this powerful take on Hollywood corruption, though there are plenty of

From writer-director Neil Marshall, the brilliant filmmaker behind The Descent comes a new tale of terror, The Lair, out this October. In the film, “When Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Today Striking Distance Studio has released a brand-new trailer that gives a sneak peek at The Callisto Protocol’s main setting: Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security facility located on Jupiter’s moon Callisto, where something has gone terribly wrong. From the original creators of Dead Space, the game stars Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Blade Runner: Black Lotus) and Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad, The Boys) who are fighting for survival as well as seeking answers to what exactly is happening on the Callisto moon along with what happened to a lost colony that was present on the moon before the Black Iron Prison was constructed. ‘Scorn’ Shows Off In New 8 Minute Gameplay Video

Developer Ebb Software and publisher Kepler Interactive today released new footage for their upcoming horror FPS Scorn. The 8-minute video will take players into the Gigeresque bio-labyrinth where grotesque horrors await. In Scorn, players will explore a surreal, nightmarish world where players will come to understand the character they’re guiding, if only slightly. Tasked with exploring this hellscape, players must learn its rules and master its puzzles without any guidance or support, being left to fend for themselves in a totally immersive experience. By uncovering these secrets and gathering the strange bio-mechanical tools that seem to have been used by the civilization that previously called this world home, surviving might just be possible. Finding the truth, however, is an entirely different question. Scorn will be coming out October 21 for PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

Star Wars actor Adam Driver is heading back to outer space in 65. Sam Raimi has teamed up with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the writers of A Quiet Place, for the sci-fi thriller. After being in limbo for several years the film that also stars Ariana Greenblat (Avengers: Infinity War), and Chloe Coleman (My Spy), finally has a release date from Columbia Pictures, March 10, 2023. In 65, an astronaut who crashes lands on a mysterious planet and discovers that he is not alone. Zainab Azizi and Debbie Liebling are producing along with Raimi. We’ll update you when we know more.
