J.A. Bayona in the Lead to Direct Upcoming 'Jurassic World' Sequel

J.A. Bayona in the Lead to Direct Upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel

Back in 2015, Colin Trevorrow achieved the cinematic equivalent of resurrecting a dead species: he revived the Jurassic Park franchise after a 14-year dirt nap with Jurassic World. Sure, critics sniffed at its structural nostalgia, but audiences devoured it to the tune of $1.67 billion, a colossal upgrade from Jurassic Park III’s modest $368.7 million haul. Fast forward to last year, and Gareth Edwards tried a fresh evolutionary track with Jurassic World: Rebirth, ditching theme-park logistics to chase dinosaurs out in the wild. Edwards has since stepped away from the director’s chair, leaving Universal on the hunt for a new alpha predator to helm the next installment. Return of the Monster-Maker Universal might not have to look far for its next director. Word on the street via The Hollywood Reporter is that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona has emerged as the frontrunner to take the reins. If the deal closes, he will direct an elite surviving cast, with Rebirth

Go Behind the Scenes to Witness How Resident Evil's "Rat King" Was Brought to Life

Go Behind the Scenes to Witness How Resident Evil’s “Rat King” Was Brought to Life

Bringing a multi-limbed, rolling mass of zombified flesh to life required a uniquely artistic approach. Instead of relying on motion-capture suits in front of a green screen, Resident Evil director Zach Cregger and stunt coordinator Jakub Hudlický used real people. They recruited a dedicated ensemble from Czech studio Movement Productions to animate the creatures, including the “Rat King.” The group consisted of highly trained contemporary dancers and contortionists.  All with the physical control to move as a singular, undulating organism. To mimic a human “rat king,” the performers were rigged together using custom multi-point harness systems and flexible webbing. Rehearsals focused on disorienting locomotion, training the dancers to crawl, roll, and reach in asymmetric rhythms. So the multi-armed mass moved with an unnatural, jarring cadence. This tactile foundation gave the creature organic weight and a center of gravity during physical set interactions. Digital physics often fails to replicate it. Watch the behind-the-scenes look to see how the creature was brought
