Genre Bending 'The Becomers' Celebrates Fantasia Premiere With New Clip

Genre Bending ‘The Becomers’ Celebrates Fantasia Premiere With New Clip

A new, first-look clip and poster have been released for Zach Clark’s upcoming genre-bending film The Becomers ahead of its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 22nd. The film follows a body-snatching alien who comes to Earth, reconnects with their partner, and tries to find their way in modern America. Written and conceived in early 2021, the film reflects the challenges of the real world at the time through its pointedly chaotic portrayal of society, with science fiction elements heavily inspired by the original “Star Trek” series. A true brew of surprising genres, the film is all at once comedic, horrific, grotesque, and romantic. “The Becomers is a story of love, longing, and alienation,” said Clark on his latest. “A kitsch-soaked, pathos-laden melodrama about our sad, sad planet.” The Becomers marks Clark’s second time screening at the Fantasia International Film Festival following the 2016 Canadian premiere of Little Sister, with the festival calling him “one of

Black Mirror’s Loch Henry, One Of The Most Disturbing Entries To The Series

Black Mirror is back after a long hiatus, and many believe that season six has been a solid return to form for the much-loved Netflix anthology series. Arguably the strongest episode of the five new ones is the second offering, Loch Henry. This isn’t a traditional tech-focused Black Mirror episode. It’s more of a tribute to the booming true crime genre that has flourished in the streaming era. However, it wasn’t followed by Ness, the word that most mainstream audiences would associate with it. Still, seeing that word may have had people speculating about what the episode could involve, with ideas about monsters coming to mind. Of course, that’s because the

Spoiler-Free Reviews: THE BYSTANDERS and OZMA (Sci-Fi London 2023)

The Bystanders The invisible-to-people titular characters in director Gabriel Foster Prior’s U.K. science-fiction comedy The Bystanders aren’t exactly guardian angels, but they do have similar tasks in that they are assigned humans to watch over. If you get a positive-minded Bystander like rookie Peter Weir (Scott Haran), you could be in good shape, but if you’re stuck with a more jaded one such as Frank (Seann Walsh) — well, all bets are off. Peter, an anonymous office worker and a perennial second-place personality still stinging from a childhood chess championship loss, switches his charge Sarah (Georgia Mabel Clarke), a music label employee who is trying to get noticed at her job, with Frank’s ambitionless man-child Luke (Andi Jashy) in an effort to become Bystander of the Year. A budding friendship turns into rivalry, and Prior — who cowrote the screenplay with Jack Hughes — delivers a winning comedy of ill manners. Haran and Walsh have terrific comic chemistry together, and
