Movie Review: The Giant Gila Monster (1959)/The Killer Shrews (1959) – Film Masters Blu-ray

Just outside of a small town, deep within a ravine, a gila monster has grown to enormous size (and magically became a bearded lizard which is in turn presented on miniature sets to simulate it’s large scale) where it promptly eats two folks sucking face out on Lover’s Lane. This causes the local teeny-bopper community to spring into action to assist the local sheriff (Fred Graham) in finding their chums, but even when their pal, ace mechanic/drag racer Chase Winstead (Don Sullivan, The Monster of Piedras Blancas) eventually locates the couple’s car and the mysterious damage it displays, no one expects a giant monster to be the cause… because they aren’t completely insane. The monster biz escalates however from attacks on cars and trucks, to trains… which finally gets people to start digging on the possibility of a dinosaur-sized lizard hissing it’s ass off all over town… Will Chase be able to save the town, and more importantly the sock

Movie Review: Gangnam Zombie (2023) – WellGo USA Blu-ray

During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, two dudes get the shit-hot (minus the hot) idea of robbing a shipping container down South Korea way. Once said container is pried open a feral cat leaps out and attacks one of the would-be criminals, who then turns into a flesh-hungry zombie-like creature (of the fast moving variety) before falling in the drink and floating un-merrily down the stream to the posh Gangnam district. This spells impending disaster for former Taekwondo ass-kicker now office worker Hyeon-seok (Ji Il-joo) and his officemate/unrequited crush Min-jeong (Park Ji-yeon), because guess who shows up at work (after some wacky hijinks accompanied by cartoon music, naturally)? It’s the cat attack dude… c’mon, did any of you actually get that wrong? Anyhow, he’s now in the building biting mother fuckers willy-nilly and creating even more of a monster-based mess, and the impossibly bitchy owner of the building has ordered the doors sealed shut so no one will associate

Pre-Order Roger Corman's Restored Cult Classic 'Beast From Haunted Cave' Now

Pre-Order Roger Corman’s Restored Cult Classic ‘Beast From Haunted Cave’ Now

Roger Corman’s cult classic, Beast From Haunted Cave, is newly restored from a 4K scan of 35mm archival materials and will be released as a special collector’s edition on Blu-ray and DVD this October. Acclaimed as the king of low-budget cult movies, Corman produced dozens of hilarious and thrilling films. Among the best of his early output was 1959’s Beast From Haunted Cave, directed by legendary director Monte Hellman (Two-Lane Blacktop, Cockfighter), launching a 15-year collaboration between the duo. Starring Michael Forest, Sheila Noonan, and Frank Wolff, Beast From Haunted Cave sees cut-throat gangsters hatch a plan to rob a bank in Deadwood, South Dakota. Still, when one of the henchmen sets off an explosion in a nearby gold mine to act as a diversion for the heist, he awakens a blood-sucking, spider-like creature that isn’t happy about the intrusion. When a violent snowstorm delays the gang’s escape, things rapidly progress from bad to blood-curdling worse. BONUS FEATURE: Ski Troop

Rent Or Own 'The Last Voyage Of The Demeter' Now

Spoiler Free Movie Review: The Last Voyage Of The Demeter

The Last Voyage of the Demeter, inspired by a single chilling chapter, “The Captain’s Log,” from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, opens in theaters today. Is it worth all the hype? I can answer that. Just a heads up, unlike the majority of our reviews, this one does feature mild spoilers. Directed by André Øvredal, the film tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London, with the crew unaware of the horrors they contain. The impressive cast for the film includes Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, Straight Outta Compton) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew. Hawkins gives a fantastic performance, bringing empathy and wonder to the film. Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones, The Nightingale) plays Anna, a stowaway. Once her reality is revealed, your heart breaks for her, but at the same time, she emotes a strength like no one else aboard. Javier

Movie Review: Swamp Thing (1982) – MVD Rewind Collection 4K

Deep in the humid green hell of the Louisiana bayou, Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise, Twin Peaks) toils with his sister Linda (played by Nannette Brown… and changed from his wife in the DC Comics source material upon which this film is based) in a government-funded high tech lab hidden in an abandoned church. Because of that whole “government-funded” biz, Washington wants to keep the duo’s experiments involving rapid plant without soil under close scrutiny so they send Agent Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau, Escape From New York, The Fog, Creepshow… and gender swapped from the comic’s Matthew Cable, an ally/foe of Alec’s) to give it all the ol’ look-see. Unfortunately the Holland’s work has also fallen under the ghoulish gaze of suave villain Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan) who plans on using the resulting chemical to make himself immortal, and he just up and steals the formula for that shit with the help of his private army lead by the sadistic

Movie Review: Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist (2014) – Synapse Blu-ray

Filmmaker Ryan Meade’s Invaluable; The True Story of an Epic Artist presents a look at the life and career of artist Tom Sullivan, the Michigan-based creator that many of you fine cats n’ creeps may recognize as the man that brought much of the iconography of our beloved Evil Dead franchise to screaming, biting life! Speaking of Evil Dead, during the course of this demonic doc we get talkin’ head footage of many of the frightful franchises’ luminaries including the likes of Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, Danny Hicks, Theresa Tilly, Hal Delrich, and Josh Becker… and let me tell ya; there are plenty of anecdotes that I can pretty much guarantee many of you fine fiends have never, ever heard before… and to that end I’m going to stop this revoltin’ review in it’s tracks to share something I learned watching this flick… I have always wondered why Scotty has a frickin’ dog nose in a
