Eight Chilling Horror Films Set in the World of Casinos and Gambling

There are two elements you don’t usually find featured together: casinos and horror, but this unexpected mixture propels the watching experience even more. In this article, we will dive into five skin-crawling movies that intertwine the thrill of casinos and gambling with supernatural terror. These films are filled with horror, surprises, and suspense, from decrepit casino mansions to haunting island prisons. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero Even though the film is not exclusively set in a casino, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, released in 2014, supplies a sense of horror in a Caribbean casino setting. Cabin Fever stars Sean Astin, the actor who played the iconic role of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As a group of individuals was inflected with a flesh-eating virus, they sought refuge in a casino while the chaos rampaged. The movie takes a gory twist as the virus spreads. Spoiler-Free Reviews: MINORE and ABRUPTIO (Fantaspoa 2023)

Spoiler-Free Reviews: MINORE and ABRUPTIO (Fantaspoa 2023)

MINORE In director Konstantinos Koutsoliotas’ Minore (Greece, 2023), sailor William (Davide Tucci) comes to a small Greek coastal town while on shore leave, searching for someone who has been missing from his life. He befriends tavern server Aliki (Daphne Alexander), and soon the pair must join forces with the rest of the townspeople to battle against strange creatures coming from the sea. This is a winning horror comedy with a strong Lovecraftian vibe. It boasts a sizable cast whose members all give fine performances, and the characters — the screenplay is by Koutsoliotas and Elizabeth E. Schuch (The Book of Birdie) — are written so well and in such an endearing manner that viewers will want all of them to survive the invasion. That’s a rarity in horror and horror comedies recently, with so many unlikable characters in many movies of late with no one to really root for. The creatures look pretty cool and get plenty of screen time

Movie Review: Unwelcome (2022)

Movie Review: Unwelcome (2022)

Maya (Hannah John-Kamen, whom you may remember from 2018’s superhero romp Ant-Man and the Wasp, but she’s been in an ass-load of other cool stuff) and Jamie (Douglas Booth) are more than ready to get the fuck out of Dodge after being accosted by thugs, so off they trot to the safety and serenity of the Irish countryside where absolutely nothing can ever go wrong. Once there they move into the home bequeathed to J-Dawg by his recently croaked aunt… but the country home comes with a warning; honor the old ways and pay tribute to the mysterious Redcaps rumored to haunt the land every day, or there will be unspecified static heading their way! Of course our heroes forget that shit Day fuckin’ One, and the town drunk is spirited away by those creepy Caps… but of course the body-count doesn’t stop there and before you can say “Guinness” our protagonists are up to their asses in goblins, psychotic

Greg Tally Joins Upcoming Monster Movie ‘A Hard Place’

Greg Tally, star of Devil’s Knight and producer of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” has now joined the cast of J. Horton’s upcoming monster movie, A Hard Place, whose killer poster has just been unveiled. A Hard Place follows a group of criminals on the lam in the rocky mountains who find themselves in the middle of an ancient feud between the creatures that rule the day and the monsters that rule the night. Tally plays Steve, a shy guy who lives to take care of his sister ever since their parents were killed tragically years before. He uses humor and sarcasm as a defense mechanism and is not too keen on their recent criminal endeavors. A Hard Place, set to begin film this year, is a large-scale monster vs. monster movie that features two brand-new types of creatures that have never been seen before. Michael J. Epstein co-wrote the film along with J. Horton, who is also directing.

Review: "Carnival Row's" Second Season Is A Mess

Review: “Carnival Row’s” Second Season Is A Mess

After a nearly four-year wait, season two of Prime Video’s “Carnival Row,” created by Travis Beacham and Rene Echevarria, recently premiered. I was thrilled when I heard the news because season one was fantastic. “Carnival Row” features a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose rich homelands were invaded by the empires of man. This growing immigrant population struggles to coexist with humans in the grimiest section of the city, forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom. But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective, Rycroft Philostrate, and a refugee faerie named Vignette Stonemoss rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly-intolerant society. Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s standing during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row. As Philo investigates, he reveals an unimaginable monster. In the first season, we were introduced to both the human and the fae characters, with Orlando Bloom’s half-human

Movie Review: Cop Game (1988) - Severin Blu-ray

Movie Review: Cop Game (1988) – Severin Blu-ray

Do you dig on hard rockin’ tune-age playing over non-violent b-roll stock footage of the Vietnam War? It doesn’t matter, Bruno Mattei’s Cop Game kicks things off in exactly that way! Following that, we begin our tale in the final days of the war… which appear to have stretched on all the way to the late ’80s if the clothes, hairstyles, and vehicles present are to be believed. Into that anachronism steps macho mother fucker Morgan (Strike Commando 2‘s Brent Huff) and his equally match-oh pal Hawk (Max Laurel, whom you may remember as the creature Zuma from the 1985 film of the same name) who are called into service to investigate the assassination of a high rankin’ military man by a gang of heavily armed and masked soldiers. Said investigation sends our heroes into a world of slow-motion gunfire-based destruction (and a shit-ton of it too), overly-long nightclub dance routines, car chases involving no actual cars (more on that

Box Set Review: House of Psychotic Women (1972 – 1985)

Dig this; ’round about a decade ago horror scholar/author Kier-La Janisse released her legendary tome; House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films, the title of which alone let’s you know that she is the perfect person to curate (and provide intros for) a box set full of lunatic ladies various and sundry! Severin’s House of Psychotic Women set contains four films spanning the years 1972 – 1985, and in a move bound to shock and excite I’m going to feast my putrid peepers on each in good ol’ chronological order! We begin with 1972’s The Other Side of the Underneath… A woman is pulled from a lake and takes up residence in a dilapidated asylum filled with an all-female roster of patients… some of which may or may not be a theater troupe that push our heroine trough one nightmare after another that gradually explores her life as a schizophrenic and the
