Neil Marshall & Charlotte Kirk Talk Movies & Their New Horror 'The Lair'

Neil Marshall & Charlotte Kirk Talk Movies & Their New Horror ‘The Lair’

Neil Marshall, the brilliant mind behind The Descent and Dog Soldiers, is back with a new tale of terror, The Lair, co-written by Charlotte Kirk, who played the lead role in The Reckoning, and plays the lead in The Lair. I sat down with the two to talk about The Lair which centers on Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair (Kirk) who is shot down over Afghanistan, and finds refuge in an abandoned underground bunker where deadly man-made biological weapons – half-human, half-alien – are awakened.” Kelli: “First, let me start out by saying I’m a huge fan of The Descent. It was brilliant. Neil: “Thank you very much.” Kelli: “I’m also a big fan of the reckoning that movie moved me. You were fantastic in the lead role, by the way, Charlotte.” Neil: “So we really, really appreciate that. Thank you very much.” Charlotte: “Thank you.” Kelli: “There’s a ton of action in The Lair. Charlotte how did

Movie Review: Shudder's "Raven Hollow'

Movie Review: Shudder’s “Raven Hollow’

When I found out that there was a movie, Raven’s Hollow, coming out that featured Edgar Allen Poe as the main character I was excited. I’m a big fan of Poe’s works. It has now landed on Shudder and I thought I’d give it a try. Warning, there are spoilers ahead. The movie begins with a group of West Point cadets traveling down a road. They stop when they see a man, tortured, hanging on a rack, and mortally wounded. After some debate, Poe decides that must find his people. They travel to a dying town to find the dead man’s home, only to learn of a creature (demon?) that is killing the villagers. The cadets, led by Poe, set out to discover the mystery, as well as to find and destroy the creature. There’s a decent amount of action and a ton of gore in Raven’s Hollow. But the movie’s ending ruins it all. I actually caught myself saying,

Movie Review: Jordan Peele's Nope Is Out Of This World

Movie Review: Jordan Peele’s Nope Is Out Of This World

Jordon Peele has made a name for himself in horror following the release of his brilliant films Get Out and Us. His latest piece of cinema is simply titled Nope and after watching it I know why. Both writing and directing, Peele branches out into the sci-fi genre while keeping elements of horror with Nope in which residents of a lonely gulch in inland California bear witness to a chilling discovery. Warning Spoilers! The film centers on a brother and sister, played by Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah) and Emmy® Award winner Keke Palmer (Hustlers, “Scream Queens”) who run a dying horse ranch. Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, “The Walking Dead”), Michael Wincott (Basquiat, What Just Happened), and Brandon Perea (“The OA”) also star. The brother and sister couldn’t be more of opposites. Kaluuya’s OJ is quiet and hard-working while his sister is a free spirit who comes across as loud and often obnoxious.

Blu-Ray Review: Slaughter Day (1991)

Blu-Ray Review: Slaughter Day (1991)

Two pals buy a lunch and bitch bout booze money as they head out for a hard day working construction at a remote cabin in Hawaii (didn’t see that one coming did ya?). Once on-site they witness one of their peers blasting geysers of blood from a wound inflicted from machete wielding psycho/amateur occultist John Jones (Sam Bluestone). Our heroes don’t stand for this kind of maiming and proceed to beat Jones’ ass before escorting him by truck where the battle continues in the bed of a moving truck… and let me just stop this sinister synopsis to commend the absolutely absurd danger of filming this, and the result is at times nail-biting indeed! Anyway, the chase continues until Jones huffs some sort of gas from a respirator mask and disappears into thin air which slightly rattles our heroes, but not as much as it would say, any normal-ass mother fucker that would bear witness to that David Copperfield shit.

Box Set Review: The Incredibly Strange Films of Ray Dennis Steckler (1962 - 1986)

Box Set Review: The Incredibly Strange Films of Ray Dennis Steckler (1962 – 1986)

Severin has recently unleashed a new box set titled The Incredibly Strange Films of Ray Dennis Steckler, and that is my personal choice for understatement of the century! Let’s just dive-in to the first feature in the set, 1962’s Wild Guitar: The incredible legend (well at least his Dad wanted that to be a thing) Arch Hall Jr. (who also appeared in the caveman shocker Eegah! the same year) stars as Bud Eagle, a dude that’s a lil’ bit Elvis but is more a clumsy doofus with a massive Johnny Bravo-style blonde pompadour. Anyway Bud blows in to Hollywood one fateful day, down to his last fifteen cents, and happens into a diner (populated by cartoon hooligans and an inexplicable kid dressed as a cowboy) where he meets the bubbly, Joker-grin having Vickie (Nancy Czar), a hopeful dancer that let’s Bud tag along with her to a variety show taping where she struts her stuff; a shimmy-packed, facial tick-laced dynamite
