James Wan And “Moon Knight” Writer Team Up For ‘Thread’

There’s a new mysterious film, simply titled Thread, quietly in the works over at Sony from horror heavy hitter James Wan and Jeremy Slater, (“The Exorcist” series), showrunner of the upcoming “Moon Knight “series. Deadline reports that the movie, from Wan’s Atomic Monster, will be written and directed by Slater and is being billed as “Back to the Future meets Alien.” Wan and Michael Clear will produce under the Atomic Monster banner. Back in 2004 James Wan made waves in the genre with Saw and has since directed films such as The Conjuring and Aquaman, amongst others. He is a prolific producer with more than 31 big-budget titles including all of The Conjuring franchise and universe, as well as the Saw franchise. His most recent movie being ‘Malignant‘. He’s also serving as producer for the upcoming adaptation of two Stephen King stories, Salem’s Lot and The Tommyknockers. Slater is a great series writer and is behind series such as Netflix’s

Blu-ray Review: Warriors of the Year 2072 (1984)

Blu-ray Review: Warriors of the Year 2072 (1984)

It’s 2072, and shit is Blade Runner as fuck. In this foggy, moving billboard landscape a new form of extremely popular motorcycle sport has arisen, and no one is better at it than ol’ Drake (Jared Martin, who you may remember from the ultra-gory late ’80s War of the Worlds television show)… and while the fans love him to itty-bitty pieces, the network sees him as a hurdle in the way of promoting further, more deadlier entertainment… namely a program where death row prisoners are offered a chance at redemption by competing in a “to the death” blood sport! A solution is soon reached; send in some whistling dime store Droogs, have them off Drakes’ lady, and when Drake goes Blood Simple on their asses, throw him in the hoosegow… thus making him a criminal and eligible to “participate” in the new gladiatorial games. Once in training he meets his rag-tag team; acid-scarred dude, Fred “the Hammer” Williamson, mohawk karate

Vampires, The Underused Gaming Trope

Vampires, The Underused Gaming Trope

It’s perhaps fair to say that, for all their fame, vampires have never been a popular villain in media – or, at least, nowhere near as popular as zombies, murderous mountain folk, or mutant monsters. This might have something to do with their classical portrayal as rather cultured, singular people, which doesn’t exactly create the same kind of nightmare scenario as hordes of the undead. Limited Options Of course, there are plenty of vampire stories that have managed to make an effective evil out of our long-toothed friends. Books like Salem’s Lot by Stephen King and Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire stand alongside a raft of films such as Let Me In, 30 Days of Night, and the inexplicably popular Twilight saga, which was shunned by almost every studio before going on to make US$3.3bn. In gaming, though, vampires never really took off as a concept. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim added a menacing cult and the ability to

The 5 Scariest Things That Have Ever Happened In Movies

The 5 Scariest Things That Have Ever Happened In Movies

One thing’s for sure: There’s been no shortage of horror films over the years. Indeed, it’s extraordinary to think that the project widely regarded as the first-ever “horror” film was a three-minute short recorded in 1896! Le Manoir du Diable (or The House of the Devil as it was known across America) was crafted by George Méliès. And as Far Out Magazine alluded to looking into the film’s history, its reputation stems largely from its having the first scene depicting the transformation of a man into a bat –– the first vampire scene. Perhaps it’s not overly frightening to watch now, but it certainly highlights the power of a scene (as well as how far the horror genre has come in terms of special effects and blood-curdling storylines!). Thinking of the genre in these terms –– of iconic scary scenes, that is –– it’s awfully difficult to narrow things down. But we’ve put together a list of worthy moments that

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

10. Midnight Mass (review) One of the new series the streaming giant, Netflix, unleashed this year is “Midnight Mass” from brilliant filmmaker Mike Flanagan, whose winning relationship with Netflix has given us hit series such as “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In “Midnight Mass“, “The arrival of a charismatic young priest brings glorious miracles, ominous mysteries, and renewed religious fervor to a dying town desperate to believe.” While I did have issues with some of the elements of the show, mainly the ending, it belongs on this list due to the quality of the series and its incredible all-star cast. 9. Shadow and Bone Dark and supernatural, the series, an adaptation of the best-selling Grishaverse novels, is set in a war-torn world where Alina Starkov has just discovered a power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she

4k-UHD Review: Children of the Corn (1984)

4k-UHD Review: Children of the Corn (1984)

Burt (Peter Horton) and Vicky (The Terminator franchise’s Linda Hamilton) are a hot, young, upwardly-mobile couple headin’ cross country to Seattle where ol’ Burt is all hot n’ horny to begin his career as a physician. Along the way they run over a kid in Nebraska as one does, and find themselves lost in the seemingly abandoned town of Gatlin. Well, as fate, and Stephen King (yup, this is based on a short story by the monstrous maestro himself from 1977) would have it, the town’s children have murdered each and every adult in town, and are really into cornfield sacrifices to an evil deity known as “He Who Walks Behind the Rows”. Chief among that corn-based antichrist’s arcane acolytes are the Preacher-man… err, child Issac (John Franklin) and his enforcer Malachi (Courtney Gains, he of The ‘Burbs fame), and both are hell-bent on making Burt and Vicky the latest offerings to their dark god, but unexpected help may turn

P.D. Alleva’s ‘Golem’ Is A Trip Into Darkness That You Won’t Recover From – Book Review

Plot “The devil is in the details” according to author P.D. Alleva in his novel Golem. This phenomenal book starts off with a phenomenal plot. A detective story, a horrific nightmare, a thriller, a view into the occult, and the spiraling of insanity all rolled up onto one package called Golem. As newly-badged Detective John Ashton digs deeper into a very public missing child case, he digs up much more than he bargained for and much more than even he believes. This novel is a journey into the darkest and most vile parts of horror and personally, I couldn’t put it down. As the the story races forward, the plot that Alleva reveals gets more and more intriguing as the devils in the dark swallow everything. Characters There are not a ton of characters in this novel (nor does there need to be) and the characters there are, are very memorable. Alleva stays away from from overused cliches while creating

Overlord Star Pilou Asbæk Joins The New ‘Salem’s Lot’ Adaptation

The new take on Stephen King’s tale Salem’s Lot continues to add to its cast. The latest addition to the vampire film from writer-director Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun), is the Overlord and “Game of Thrones” actor Pilou Asbæk who will play the pivotal role of Richard Straker, the vampire’s familiar. In Salem’s Lot, author Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire. M – You know, for reading I read a lot of horror and sci-fi, but one of my favorite authors is completely out of the genre. Elmore Leonard and his crime stories. The way he puts things together, his dialogue and the way he treats his characters. There’s actually a book I wrote that is kind of
