Short Film Review: KAL-The Clown

A young woman sits in her apartment watching a movie when the doorbell rings. She answers it and finds a slightly damaged package lying in the doorway. Upon opening the package she finds a creepy clown marionette stuffed inside. It’s holding a note that looks like it was written by a child just learning to write. The note says “My name is KAL”. She closes up the box and goes back to her movie, but she will find that her “little guest” will not be ignored. Soon enough she may learn exactly what fuels people’s Pupaphobia and Coulrophobia (that’s the fear of puppets and clowns to you and me Rusty). The film was directed by Carlos Omar de León from a script he co-wrote with Vince Phrommany. Their story combines two elements that have been used to play on people’s fears for many a year – clowns and puppets/dolls. This particular puppet even bears a resemblance to the kind of

‘Slender Man’ Movie And Documentary Obtain Release Dates

We are getting not getting one, but two films about the legend of Slender Man. The first, a film from Screen Gems titled ‘Slenderman‘, will begin filming this Spring under the direction of Sylvain White (Hawaii Five-O, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer). The film is set to release on February 2, 2018. Per Deadline: Sylvain White has been set to direct Slender Man, the Screen Gems thriller that will begin production by the spring. White made his feature directing debut with Screen Gems on the sleeper hit Stomp the Yard, and also directed The Losers. Scripted by David Birke, Slender Man revolves around a tall, thin horrifying figure with unnaturally long arms and a featureless fact, who is reputed to be responsible for the haunting and disappearance of countless children and teens. It was hatched as a multi-platform property, and Screen Gems last year acquired the screen rights from Mythology Entertainment, Madhouse Entertainment, and No Dream Entertainment.

SCREAM’ Turned 20: Where Are They Now? Scream 5?

Last week (12/20) SCREAM —also known as the film that made slasher movies scary again— turned the big 2-0. Twenty years later, three sequels and a awesome TV series (which will be getting a season 3 in case you forgot) and now talk of a fourth sequel by the star and famed writer, where do we begin? So if you stood tuned to my articles, I’ve covered everything to do with SCREAM: The TV series, including reviews, recaps and season updates. MTV’s series acted as the final project based around the infamous SCREAM franchise that Horror Master and my idol Wes Craven, was attached to before his shocking and untimely death in 2015. Craven stood as director of the franchise since its 1996 launch with the writing hand of then fresh face Kevin Williamson. With three sequels on hand, Craven sadly couldn’t stay with us long enough to produce any others, but as previously stated he did manage to have

The Pied Piper – An Original Horror Story

One of my favorite stories growing up was a tale that my third grade teacher read to the class called “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.” The story stuck with me and I have often lamented that it is not only fairly unknown (or at least not a prominent fairy tale), but even if it is known, this gem of a tale is censored and bubble-gummed up to have a happy ending. Granted, Mrs. Kratz — my third grade librarian — read us the buttered up version where all the children are retuned happily to their home, but like most fairy tales, the original is far darker. For those who are not familiar with this horribly dark tale, it sprouts from the rat infestations during the black plague epidemic in the 1300s. The small village of Hamelin was overrun with rats and the people were all dying. A brightly dressed stranger with a flute came and offered his services of purging

Ed Gein…The Man Who Made his Own Furnishings

Back in 1998 I watched my first actual horror movie. I had always had a secret love of terror and an unaccepted fascination with horrors, but hid them from public until that night. I slipped the DVD of the classic: Psycho into the DVD player and was mesmerized for the entire 109 minutes. Watching Norman Bates changed my life. I delved into everything I could get my hands on! I knew that I had a lot of catching up to do for missed years of macabre immersion. I watched Silence of the Lambs, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1000 Corpses and other horror movies. Imagine my absolute cryptic delight when I realized that one man, one real-life man, served as the inspiration for all of these villains. Ed Gein. One of the truest, most horrific villains ever to stain ground red with blood. One of two sons born to a religiously fanatic mother and an abusive, leather-tanning father, Ed grew
