Donnie Darko’s Casey La Scala Is Taking Us Back To ‘Amityville 1974’

Today, the Wonderfilm Media Corporation announced that is taking horror fans back to one of the most iconic homes of the genre, Amityville, Amityville 1974, set to begin principal photography this November. The film is based on the real-life tragedy that spawned The Amityville Horror novel and subsequent films when Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot all six members of his family on a fateful November night. This tragedy was seared into the minds of the public consciousness by writer Jay Anson, whose book “The Amityville Horror” recounted the terror experienced by a family moving into the house in 1975 but fleeing after 28 days driven out by hostile supernatural forces. Wonderfilm’s Amityville 1974 will tell the story of the DeFeo’s horrifying murderous rampage. Casey La Scala (Donnie Darko, The Remaining) will direct from a script he wrote. Jeff Bowler and Shaun Redick (Get Out/ Blackkklansman) will produce for Wonderfilm. Todd Garner (Tag, Mortal Kombat) will also produce. Bret Saxon and Yvette

GODZILLA VS. CYNEMA

Cynema or Not Cynema I started this blog not to review movies, but to examine the effects of cynicism on filmmaking. If you go through these posts you’ll find they aren’t reviews but rather how we view our entertainment and often take it for granted while lowering our acceptance standards. SPOILERS AHEAD! GOT IT? SPOILERS AHEAD! TURN BACK! You can read why I qualify the 1998 Matthew Broderick Godzilla in a previous post HERE. Warners and Legendary really hyped the marketing on Godzilla King of the Monsters and I gotta give props to the campaign. From the very first trailer, the strategy was to show this was a major departure from the Gareth Edwards 2014 film. Many will concur that a major shortfall of that film was there just wasn’t enough Godzilla. There wasn’t enough Bryan Cranston and a little too much Kick Ass but not the monster kick ass action we hoped for. What Edwards did achieve was dispelling

Movie Review: Silhouette (2019)

Jack and Amanda Harms (Tom Zembrod and April Hartman respectively) are dealin’ with that ultimate fright flick family buzzkill; a dead kid…namely their young daughter. As is often the case in films like this, the couple haul ass to the most secluded spot they can find and move into a seemingly nice abode (which of course is anything but). Of course that tyke won’t stay dead and soon begins appearing to our heroes which increases their marital woes roughly a billionity (it’s a real number) percent! What is this kreepy kid’s endgame, and will our protagonists make it long enough with their sanity intact to find out? Writer/Director Mitch McLeod has worked a bit of magic with Silhouette; while the flick is definitely well-stepped in horror biz tropes tried and true; his film is elevated by a stellar cast and a keen visual sense. Tom Zembrod and April Hartman really knock it out of the putrid park as the troubled

Episode Review: “Into The Dark’s” Episode “They Come Knocking”

June’s episode of “Into the Dark”, titled “They Come Knocking”, is about a father and his two daughters on a road trip to spread the ashes of their mother. Once they have arrived at the remote spot where the father purposed, the episode takes a frightening turn when the struggling family is stalked by black eyed children. The episode is the most emotionally driven episode to date. As we watch flashbacks and see the family’s tension, the story of the mother’s illness and death comes to light. I’ll be honest, this part of the episode got under my skin. The mother’s passing and the emotional wreckage hit so close to home for me. You see, my father went through something so similar as cancer took him. I could relate a little too well to the family. I may have even shed a tear or two. The blacked eyed children, characters we do not see often enough in film, are creepy

An Interview With ‘Child’s Play’ Actress Carlease Burke

Carlease Burke sat down to talk with me about her latest role, as Doreen in the upcoming Lars Klevberg-directed remake of Child’s Play. Set to premiere on June 21, 2019, and stars Aubrey Plaza in the role of a mother who gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll for his birthday, unaware of its sinister nature. Mark Hamill will be voicing Chucky. Horror Fuel: “You have been in so many fantastic series and movies. I mean, wow!” Carlease Burke: “I know. It is pretty remarkable when you are looking back at it. That’s a lot of stuff (laughter).” Horror Fuel: “(giggle) When I was looking at your IMDb I saw a lot of series I know and love.” Carlease Burke: “Oh, so you may have seen me before you knew me.” Horror Fuel: “I’m sure of it. I absolutely love Shameless.” Carlease Burke: “In the beginning, it was the first season, I played Roberta. I had a three-episode arc.

Blu-ray Review: Severin New Release Bonanza!

Hey cats n’ creeps, our dear fiends at Severin have got a beastly bounty of new and upcoming exploitation and horror monsterpieces that are going to make your (severed) heads spin…and I’m gonna slap my patented revoltin’ review magic upon each and every one of them! First up we have a sleazy lil’ number called: Emanuelle and Francoise (1975) Francoise (Patrizia Gori) arrives home from her modeling sesh to find her abusive ass of a lover Carlo (the legendary Big George Eastman) chin deep in the crotch of another. This causes ol’ Franny to commit that hoary ol’ chestnut; train assisted suicide. Enter Emanuelle (Rosemarie Lindt), Francoise’s sister who anonymously saunters in to Carlo’s life and begins the ol’ seduction bag (along with drawing unflattering pictures of herself…as one does). Soon she drugs that big ape and the fun really begins as she drags his ass into her torture room (hidden behind a moving wall in her apartment!!) where she

Sean Patrick Flanery And Lew Temple Saddle Up For Horror Western ‘Spirit Reckoning’

Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints) and Lew Temple (The Walking Dead, The Devil’s Rejects) have saddled up for the horror-western Spirit Reckoning, written and directed by Jimmy Lee Combs (Terror Tales). Flanery stars as gunfighter Lawson Lovette whose psychotic tendencies and skills with a revolver make him the perfect candidate to aid our hero Sam Conley AKA “The Skull Cowboy” on his blood-soaked journey of revenge. Temple is set to play the role of Ottis Clement who is just as crazed as Lawson, sparking an intense rivalry between the two men. Ottis causes chaos and anarchy in the Wild West alongside his brother Ed and leader of their posse Savage Bill. Spirit Reckoning is a fun-filled action-horror-western that has never been done like this before and we’re billing it as John Woo meets Sergio Leone meets the horror genre,” Jimmy Lee Combs said. “The Lawson Lovette character is a real ball of fire with some great wisecracks along the

DVD Review: Virus of the Dead (2018)

If there’s two things that cats what love the horror biz dig it’s arcane anthologies and zombies…so it stands to reason that many of you boils n’ ghouls would be curious to check out a flick that combines those things right? Well, you’re in luck because the flick I’m slapping my putrid peepers on today, Virus of the Dead, is an anthology that weaves together multiple (and I mean multiple) tiny terror tales together to present various views of a world balls deep in the middle of a zombie holocaust! Running through the film is a constant, that folks will simply not give up their vain phone usage and social media no matter how many frothing gut-munchers are at the door. It’s a good carry through, and sadly realistic…but whateves; it gives us a fly on the wall view of all that shamblin’ dead chaos that unspools for nearly 2 hours over fifteen sinister segments. Speaking of those segments they
