Movie Review: Hellarious (2019)

Here it comes boils n’ ghouls; the latest arcane anthology to come a stormin’ into our beloved horror biz; Hellarious! Let’s see what this fright flick has to offer us horror hounds, shall we? Well I can tell you one thing it doesn’t offer, and that’s a wrap-around segment… Chapter One weaves the yarn of a small gaggle of grocery store employees closing up shop for the night. After leaving her charges in order to use the ter-let, the store manager returns to find some of her peers stark raving bonkers after enduring some unknown trauma or another… and trust me, when revealed the answer is as satisfyingly ludicrous as one could expect Comprised of a fun script (well acted) that takes the piss out of creature features, while presenting a unique twist on the genre as well, our first story sets the bar very high for the rest of the terror tales in this thing… Chapter Two brings us

Blu-ray Review: The Banana Splits Movie (2019)

*Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own. Harley (Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) is b.d. into the Banana Splits… a wacky kids program starring a quartet of costumed critters (Bingo, Fleegle, Snorky, and Drooper by name). As fate would have it, Harley’s mother Beth (Dani Kind) gets our diminutive hero tickets to the live show for his birthday, and drags along his slacker half-brother Austin (Romeo Carere), douche of a dad, Mitch (Steve Lund), and classmate (notice I didn’t say “friend”, ‘cuz Harley has next to none of those) Zoe (Maria Nash). Seems prosaic enough, save for the fact that the series has been cancelled, effective right after filming, and the automatons that portray the cartoonish cast have gone completely berserk and begin murdering people six ways to Sunday! Will Harley and his family survive the ordeal, or become part of the eternal horror

Movie Review: 3 Lives (2019)

Ol’ Emma (Mhairi Calvey) is well and truly in the sinister soup! She’s been kidnapped and chucked into an abandoned bunker with a dude named Ben (Tyron Ricketts), a real shit-heel who sexually assaulted our heroine 15 years prior… along with her old school chum Jamie (Martin Kaps). Soon this gaggle finds themselves b.d. in the stalk n’ slay bag as they strive to keep alive when the psychos that abducted them begin chasing them through the wicked woods. 3 Lives has it’s ups and downs. Co-Writer (along with Wolf-Peter Arand)/Director Juliane Block presents Emma as a character shattered by the damage Ben inflicted on her, and Calvey certainly has the acting chops to make that believable…but unfortunately the situation she finds herself in is cliche and predictable for anyone that is a fan of the slasher genre. Fortunately the tension is kept relatively high and effective so the goings-on remain mostly watchable throughout. See how I said “mostly” up

Go Behind The Scenes Of ‘Kill Giggles’ With The First Batch Of Images

Horror flick Kill Giggles has now wrapped filming and we have a batch of behind-the-scenes images to share with you. The film stars talented North Carolina local Michael Ray Williams (Watch If You Dare (2018)) as unhinged killer Tommy dos Santos alongside the fan-favorite Scream Queen Ellie Church (High on the Hog (2019), Harvest Lake (2016), Headless (2015) etc.) as Eden di Prima, the brave woman who may just save Tommy from himself. The pair were supported by genre legends Vernon Wells, Felissa Rose, and Judith O’Dea. What we’ve done here is truly make movie magic, shooting 148 scenes over a period of 20 days in 36 different locations with a 20-25-person crew,” says writer-director Jaysen Buterin. “From a ghost mall to a haunted hospital to beautiful theatres and downtown settings, there are some amazing sequences and death scenes coming up that we hope people will be talking about for some time, but the highlight HAS to be drawing and

Digital And Blu-Ray Release Date Announced For ‘Brightburn’

This August, James Gunn‘s Brightburn, one of the biggest films of the year comes to Digital, 4K Ultra, Blu-ray and DVD and we couldn’t be more excited! What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? In this horror-centered take on the superhero trope, a couple (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) adopt a baby from another world. They raise the boy (Jackson A. Dunn) to use his powers for good, but evil begins to grow within him. From visionary filmmaker James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither) who also co-wrote the film along with Mark Gunn, presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror, arriving on Digital August 6, 2019, followed by its release on 4K Ultra, Blu-ray or DVD on August 20th, from Sony Pictures. Be sure to check out our interview with Tim Williams, the composer behind

Movie Review: Hi-Death (2018)

Here it comes boils n’ ghouls; another arcane anthology that will assault our putrid peepers with a multitude of fun-sized fright flicks! Let’s see how Hi-Death stacks up, and if it’ll contain more hits than misses… The obligatory wrap-around segment comes in the form of Terror Tour (written and directed by Brad Sykes) which features two comely lasses taking a horror based tour of L.A. while watching a series of tremble inducing tales along the way. In my opinion these are always the most superfluous of segments in these things, and this gets the job done okay. First up comes Anthony Catanese’s Death Has a Conscience; which tells the story of hardcore music fan and addict (of the fictional drug Spit) Erin (Jensen Jacobs) who decides to come down in a rank-ass motel room. Sounds prosaic enough, except the ol’ Grim Reaper makes the scene to have a heart to heart with our heroine! I enjoyed this one quite a

Blu-ray Review: The Dark Side of the Moon (1990)

In 2022, the crew of the Spacecore 1 (named after the first volume of the world’s foremost sci-fi themed porno film…okay, maybe not) are sent on a mission to repair a nuclear powered satellite floating above the moon. One p. hair later it appears as if the ol’ S.C. 1 is a rather huge hunk of shit of a spaceship (no matter what the ships fine A.F. female robot says), and our hapless heroes are stranded near the dark side of the moon. As if that wasn’t daunting enough, a derelict space shuttle floats by, and our crew decides to investigate the craft…only to find it’s crew missing; except for one very suspicious corpse. Speaking of that stiff; they bring it back to Spacecore 1 where it is soon revealed to contain some ancient star-borne evil…among other mysteries that spell one hell of an unpleasant voyage for our heroes! Truth be told, I had never even heard of The Dark

Movie Review: Jordan Peele’s US

I unboxed a swag pack from Jordan Peele’s most recent film, US. Included in the box was the Blu-ray, which I’ve been eagerly awaiting to see for months. I popped the movie in and sat back with my fingers crossed that the movie would live up to the hype. Let’s face it, Peele sat the bar high right from the get-go with Get Out. In the first seconds of the film a black screen appears with a spiel about tunnels running under the entire U.S. this is important. You might not think so at first, seeing that the synopsis only talks about a mother returning to her childhood home with her family for a holiday, but it is, so is the bible verse (Jeremiah 11:11) which we see repeatedly throughout the movie. Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I
